My stock tires (24 Ram 3500 SRW Long Bed) have about 36K on them and still look good but we are planning extended trips with the 5th wheel this summer so I want to replace before we leave home base. Most of our driving is highway with maybe a little in dirt/gravel (depending on the camp ground and/or if we go off grid). Also, we don't start out running heavy but as the trip goes, so do the rocks, clothes, gifts, etc. add up. So I am looking for good highway tire with the ability to handle the weight and maybe a littler off road capability. Maybe a unicorn but.......Appreciate real world experience and recommendations. Thank you. John....
 
Sounds like just about any name brand AT in load range E will be your friend.

I’m quite partial to the Toyo Open Country, and the Nitto Terra Grapplers, but some prefer other brands. Realistically, your demands are quite achievable with a large variety of tires.
 
I had Nitto Terra Grapplers on an F150 and absolutely loathed those tires so YMMV wildly. Had BFG K02s on a Jeep Grand Cherokee and loved those tires. Last week I pulled a full size medical equipment delivery van out of the ditch on a snow covered road using my Falken Wildpeak A/T4W equipped Toyota 4Runner. I was so impressed by their performance I'll be putting a set on my 2500 when the time comes for sure.
 
Michelins are what are replaced mine with on our '21 3500 Long bed right at 34000 miles and never looked back. Traded the truck in with 63000 miles and they still looked new.

I had Michelins on an F350 DRW that worked well for transporting RVs. I averaged 80,000 miles per set on those tires. However, the only way to get that truck to move on wet grass was in 4WD. An empty dually has less traction than a SRW pickup, but generally speaking, tires that provide higher mileage have a harder compound which results in lower traction.
 
Thanks for the feedback. I am leaning to either the Bridgestone Dueler A/T Ascent or the Michelin Defender LTX Platinum. Priced about the same. Anyone with experience with either of those?

Michelin is a primo highway tire, and a mediocre “off road” option.

I don’t have any experience with the newer duelers, as the last set I had was about 20 years ago.
 
The LTXs are what I had on my dually. The Bridgestones have a good reputation and used to be popular with the Jeep crowd IIRC.

Edit: "Mediocre" is being kind.

They are as bad off pavement as the factory trans force garbage lol

I also had a set of nittos that I hated.
FWIW these duratracs are better in some categories and worse in others. Overall I can’t recommend duratracs either despite being happy with them on lighter trucks. I’ll be replacing them asap
Get something other than those two
 
Really Rich! And you never reached out to anyone to get opinions to add to your research. Wow.....

Seeing that Michelin only makes the Platinum in a 20 inch and couldn't convince myself to go with such a strange looking tread pattern, so I ended up going with the Continental TerrainContact H/T and am super happy with how the tire performs, both in wet / dry conditions and some light snow on the HW. The tire reminds me so much of the proven Michelin Defender LTX M/S2.

What is not great about these?
They were on my truck when I got them but got ditched during my fight with a persistent vibration, didn’t have them long.
Have the Nitto RGs on it for a few years now, they have been ok except in frozen mud stuff where they become slicks.

they won’t balance out perfectly and they’ve gotten very loud. They have given me good traction and ride pretty soft but I’ll switch to something else long before they wear out.
 
I am really liking my Cooper Discovery Stongholds. They are wearing very well running heavy and towing. Also work great for plowing. I will likely be buying them again when these ones wear out. Also they have an incredible millage warranty

Do you have the older Duratrac or the Duratrac RT?
