12 pin connector and Trailer Surround View Camera

Do you have a link to the infotainment wireless option? I can't find it on their site.

Sorry, I keep saying infotainment and I think it's actually visionworkscameras.com. @Visionworks84

If you want to use as an observation camera rolling down the road, you would still need someone's black box or a Tazer (though not 100% sure if tazer camera override works on HD's)

@Jimmy07 I posted here and sent you a message a few days ago, trying to get this working but I've hit a wall and you seem the like the only guy that can help lol sorry to bug you but do you mind taking a look please and thank you!

It's a RP-TNC, and I found a RP-TNC to fakra cable on amazon available in various lengths:

I just tested it out, the camera works great with that cable and the 68532403AA connector. Thanks again Jimmy.

Turns out this wasn't a great solution long term - camera just wasn't reliable with the aftermarket camera. I went back to the stock one with the extra coiled up. The stock cable is much thicker/stiffer.

My 2021 Power Wagon was ordered with the Towing Technology Group, Surround-View Camera System, Digital Rearview Mirror, and Trailer Camera Wiring (No Camera) by Mopar. It has a 12-pin connector on the bumper.

What are my options for adding a camera to the rear of my travel trailer? And where will I be able to view the feed, on the digital rearview or the Uconnect display?

I do have an OBD Link MX+ and bypass cable for any needed software changes.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Has anybody been able to find a source for the 12-pin trailer side plug (or umbilical as it was termed earlier)?
The OEM manufacturer is Erich Jaeger in Europe and they won’t sell them piecemeal.
I see Visionworks has figured out where to get them since it is on their plug-n-play camera and also Nichols welding but VW’s wants $199 for just the plug and I’m still waiting on a response from Nichols.

Ford uses the same connector and it’s much cheaper.

I am aware that Ford’s 12-pin is the same and I have also heard that theirs is cheaper but I can’t find anybody that can actually provide a part number or even a source to get just the plug (or maybe plug & pigtail) to back those claims up.
The only plugs I can find are all connected to wiring harnesses for cameras, TTPMS, YAW, etc.
I just want a replacement plug so I can wire in my own higher quality analog camera.
Wide open for ideas on where to get that plug

The wiring harness for their camera is what people are buying and then wiring in their own camera.

Positions 1 & 6 is power and ground for the trailer CVPM, and/or Aux cameras 1 & 2.
Positions 2 & 3 is CANbus IHS HI and LO for the trailer CVPM.
Positions 8, 9, & 10 are for Aux camera 1.
Positions 7, 11, & 12 are for Aux camera 2, OR video output from the trailer CVPM.

Thank you very much!! I appreciate the help!

Question for all of you that are WAY more educated than me on this stuff. We ordered our ‘22 3500 with the trailer surround system. It was working fine until about two weeks ago. Now I just keep getting the message pictured. I’m using the connection in the bed of the truck. BTW, both of my 12 pin boxes have worked since day one. I tested them before I installed the cameras a year ago.
1) Which fuse is for the system? I think I found it and it’s good.
2) Should there be 12VDC going to the system through the 12 pin cable?
3) If it should be 12VDC, which pins is the power on?
Randy, did your system ever come back? I am in the same boat right now. My system was working perfectly fine, and now my system is showing the same message that you had posted in your attached photo. I saw someone reply to you saying that they ended up doing a Uconnect update, but I don't think I have any updates available. Any help would be greatly appreciated. This is driving me nuts!

Hey everyone — I’m running into an issue with the trailer surround view system and wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this.
  • Aftermarket install using OEM Mopar components and AlfaOBD programming
  • System was fully working initially (all cameras recognized and functioning)
  • After sitting overnight (no rain, nothing unusual), I started getting “Trailer camera system unavailable”
  • No gradual degradation — it just suddenly stopped working
What I’ve checked so far:
  • Power at the module is good (~13.8–14V from truck 12 way connector)
  • Ground is solid
  • CAN bus at the 12-pin connector looks correct
    • CAN High ≈ 3.16V
    • CAN Low ≈ 1.78V
    • Differential ≈ 1.3–1.6V
    • So the truck appears to be broadcasting normally
Harness and wiring:
  • Full continuity check passed on all pins
  • Minimal voltage drop on power pins (~0.3V)
  • Bypassed the second harness section completely → no change
  • Tried both 12-pin ports (bumper + bed) → same result
Connectors:
  • Reseated everything multiple times
  • Tried adjusting pins and applying pressure
  • No change in behavior
Module behavior:
  • Module is getting full power
  • It draws current (gets warm)
  • But the truck never detects it and system stays unavailable
Software/config:
  • Feature is enabled via AlfaOBD
  • No settings were changed between when it worked and when it failed
Where I’m at now:
  • Power looks good
  • CAN looks good
  • Harness checks out
  • Both 12-pin ports on the truck behave the same (bed and bumper)
  • It seems like the module is powered but not communicating on CAN
I came across at least one other post where someone had a very similar issue even with a factory-installed system, which makes me wonder if this is a known failure mode.
  • Has anyone else seen this happen?
  • Did it end up being the module, wiring, or something else?
  • Any known fixes besides replacing the module?
I’ve got a replacement module on order and will report back once I test it, but I wanted to check with the group in case I’m missing something.
