Let’s see your wagons with 35 and 37’s

If you want a little more confidence in your wheels holding on to your tires when airing down, but you don't want all the hassles of a bead lock wheel, try the Method bead grip wheels. I'm running the 17" Method 704 HD, which was built specifically for Ram trucks. These wheels "grip" the bead of the tire - but are not bead lock wheels. They don't lock the bead onto the wheel, but they do hold the bead better than regular wheels. Just ask the guys at Discount Tire (or any other shop that works with these wheels) - it is hard for them to get the tire off the wheel.

For tires, I run 35-inch Mickey Thompson Baja Boss AT, and I air them down to ~20 psi driving moderate trails (OnX OffRoad rated 4-5). Occasionally I run a trail rated 6 (but that just makes me want 37s). So far, no concerns about losing a bead. I think I could take the tires down to 15 psi and still be fine.

Looks good too

Anyone have issues mounting a 315/70 or 35x12.5 under the bed?
Seems the 315s tend to be 1/2” smaller and fit better.

Earlier I said I had 35-inch MT Baja Boss AT tires. Actually, they are 315/70 R17 (I just think of them as 35s). The only way I could get it in the spare location was to deflate it. I tried teaching it yoga, but the inflexible bastard wasn't squeezing itself up there. I have an onboard air compressor, so that works okay for me. But - as most folks know - the "same-size" tire from different manufacturers can vary a lot in size. The BFG KO2 famously ran small. I think a KO2 in 315/70 R17 would fit in the spare location fully inflated. I run 315/70 R17 Nokian LT3 tires in the winter. Those are also small, and it fits in the spare location fully inflated.

Finally got my KO3's in and installed. 315/70R17, roughly 34.5" (like most BFG KO "35s"). Haven't redone the computer yet, but I'm enjoying my speedo telling me that everyone is driving at a little more relaxed pace on the local highways.

Initial thoughts:
A) slightly softer ride than the Duratracs (they inflated to door specs, so 60F/65R), will be airing down sometime soon to 50/45 or 45/40.
B) noticeably less tire noise at highway speeds. I ran an iphone 'decibel meter' app before and after and it's only about 1-2db quieter, but it's still noticeably less IMO.

Overall happy.. the tire shop didn't complain to me at all about balancing them, so maybe the initial run has improved. Feel fine on the highway, but bounces a bit at 40-50mph, though the Duratracs did that a bit until I aired them down as well.
Your truck is exactly like mine. Same ride quality. I am going to install a set of centramatic balancers and that should fix the "bounce" at 50mph. I have used these on my old 96 Freightliner and they worked wonders.
Ill update this when I get them.

I too have the 35-inch MT Baja Boss AT tires, LT315/70 R17, and was able to get the spare under the bed full inflate. It's not easy but it is doable. It's all about the angle...

What wizadry is this? My spare (same tire & size) is totally deflated. Maybe I'll try a little harder/smarter to mount the spare inflated in the spring when I put the MTs back on the truck. They will be coming off for winter in the next week or two, so its not worth the effort now.

LOL...here are the snaps. It's def one that you have to play with a bit to get it to work and a second hand always helps. Getting the front in while going up and then the back I think is how it went up. It's tight but she'll shove on up there.

Just replaced my 37" Toyo RT Trails for Toyo RT Pro tires. They are smooth and feel great on road. They are covered with 45,000 mile warranty. Let's see how long they last.

I like the tread on those, almost got a set for the Jeep. You’ll have to post a follow up as you use them.

Thanks! Really like them so far and have been nervous about dropping them that low. Have been running them at about 30 off road but will try lower this weekend.
30 is still street pressure. I run 37” Patagonia MT on Raceline, (no bead lock), on my normal rock and dirt trails here in the Sierras I’ll be at 12-15. In the snow 10-12, maybe down to 8. That is for deep snow, and I’m not drifting around corners at that pressure.
