Just got mine also, still waiting for the link/info to add to digital wallet after doing the redemption steps.

Ive never seen or heard a negative on Rotella, why are you not a fan?

One of the cheapest formulations on the market. Rotella is formulated to meet a price point.
Starts out life as a cracked hydrocarbon group 3 so it’s not really a true synthetic. Shell, like many other oil manufacturers, takes advantage of a marketing loophole that exists from a previous lawsuit by use of the term “Full synthetic” even though it’s a conventional base oil. Add to this their mediocre additive package and what you get is an oil that is so-so. Meets the minimum criteria but isn’t anything special, but also has some lackluster side effects. Higher volatility, prone to faster shearing, poor foaming resistance, and an inability to hang in there if conditions get a little tough inside the engine.

Personally, I view engine oil to be far more important and worthy of a little more investment in something more robust and substantial.

In your opinion what would that be?
I just used valvoline in my 6.7

Amsoil Signature series
Hotshots PAO
ADMAX moly maxi-mile
Schaeffers synthetic

Pick your flavor, but any of those are going to put forth better numbers than anything Rotella can put out.

Valvoline Premium Blue would be my choice if I wanted an inexpensive retail oil that was readily available on shelves, and had plans to change it more frequently than 10-15k intervals.

For me personally, I can't see stuffing more money into oil that I'm going to dump only on time after 5K miles.

Once I'm out of engine warranty and decide to run longer (time) intervals, then maybe I'll spend money on Amsoil.

If you want to learn and ask question about engine oil, I would recommend this site, https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums
A number of real Oil tribologists that contribute their expertise and number non tribologists that think they know what they are talking about.
You can spend a lot time there and learn a lot.

If you’re draining it every 5k it really wouldn’t make sense to invest a ton of money on oil because you’re not really putting a dent in its useful life, assuming your truck and drive cycles are routine and that everything is operating as it should be. A truck regenerating frequently would still be a concern even at 5k intervals. I’ve seen some crazy high fuel dilution numbers in 5k miles, enough to cause some oils to start shearing.

Valid point and recently mine has been regen way to frequently (town driving). I'm going to stop driving it so much unless towing. Just came back from a hunting trip but towed and it seems to have helped some. Tow trip again next week that won't see any town driving.

Thats terrible!!!! "I'm going to stop driving it so much unless towing" none of us should ever have to make a statement such as this. I understand your decision but it sucks!!!

That’s the reality of emissions equipped trucks. These trucks aren’t designed to be grocery-grabbers. They need long duration, medium to high load, high rpm, consistent drive cycles if they’re to remain reliable. It’s been this way since 2007.5 and has never really changed. You can short trip them, but that comes at the cost of more regeneration cycles and a DPF that is never really squeaky clean.

This is all made worse when the manufacturer elects to buy inferior quality emissions equipment and cuts corners with the design to save money.

Bring on the glut of $9 a gallon full synthetic oil changes.

Chevron Delo also started fall rebates August 1. Includes ADF 600. Up to $60 back. I can grab 6 gallons of XSP 400 (full syn) at $9 a gallon.

Mobil Delvac started fall rebates Sept 1. I can grab 12 gallons of Extreme (full syn 15w-40) for $10 a gallon or 12 gallons of ESP (full syn 5w-40) for $12 a gallon.

Or you can get one case of Rotella T6 delivered from Sams for $68 when on sale, get the $40 back, and have yourself one $28 oil change.
