Steering wheel controls stop working

Just an update - issue continued to occur to me. I was able to take mine into the dealership and they changed out the clock spring. Since then the issue has not returned. Now, it has been warm here and I haven’t used the steering wheel heater, not sure if that matters or not. But is has been all good for two month now.
Same with me, over 6 months now and it has been working perfectly. Fingers crossed ...

My left side stopped working, took it to the dealer. They found a connector that wasn't tight. Tech thought it needed a new harness, got that installed Tuesday. So far so good.

I picked it up a week and a half later and all "seems" to be well. They said there was a small 2 amp fuse inside of something inside the steering column that had blown. They replaced the fuse and everything works as it should...for now.
Would love to know were those fuses are. Let me know if anyone can give me any help.

Side note: Bought another used steering wheel because mine was a little beat up for $150 it had all harnesses and switches (youtubed front left switch may fix it but was $80 plus shipping), relplaced wheel and still did not fix the problem. Notice on my old steering wheel there seemed to be a bad splice for the left side heated steering wheel. Getting really frustrated now.

Reporting back to say that I am still having this issue. Removing the #82 fuse under the hood and plugging it back in resets it. It is happening about once a month. Need to schedule with dealer, but they already said if they couldn't recreate it that would hinder troubleshooting.

Glad you are able to reset it with that fairly simple step. I continue to be baffled by the fact that fixes like that work for some people, don't work for others, yet the symptoms of the problem are similar in all cases.

Ram Cares. This seems to be happening to a lot of the upper trim level trucks. Is there a TSB or a fix. Mine is back to doing it again. Tiring to spend this much money on a vehicle and one of the main things used in towing is the unresponsive dash. Qualifies as a safety concern. Should we contact the NHTSB about this?

Although I agree there seems to be a dealer's problem of not fixing it. Clocksprings, SCM, and buttons have been thrown at it. None of those fix it and when you are towing the ability to monitor the truck is important. Freezing screens do not allow it.

Update
Truck went in 12/17/2024 for repair.
Switch on steering wheel and media hub. As of 12/17/2024 is still working
Repair took about 1.5hr while waiting
Turned 16k miles today.
Problem has not returned since the dealer repair. Pretty happy about that.

What was the fix? Dealer replaced my SCCM and the problem is now back after 20k miles. Just reset the battery to see if it stays away.

Hopefully it stays away for you now. First time I am seeing the media hub replacement.

Agreed, sounded weird too for the media hub but was not asking questions to fix a weird problem

I was having the same issue with my left side steering wheel switches not working on my 2024, 2500 Tradesman that has 8300 miles. I removed the F82 fuse for a few seconds and now it works. Hopefully it stays working but just in case I have an appointment at the dealer in a couple weeks.

I'm very curious about the numbers, how many of us this is happening to. My dealer said mine was the 1st one they had seen, and I believe them. No idea how widespread it is. Is it something that eventually happens in many trucks? Or is it just those lucky few of us, yours happened early at 7500 miles, mine at over 60000 miles, seems pretty random.
My 2024 2500 Cummins Laramie is in the shop once again (6500 miles) for the left buttons not working. First time the wire harness was burnt up. They replaced the harness and control module. Lasted about two weeks. Also have issue when the trailer is hooked up I cannot confirm selection between conventional/goose neck trailer and I can’t get to any other screen. This time they said they are replacing the buttons themselves. Not feeling good about reading all these similar issues.

Well, they said it’s the buttons on the steering wheel as the clock spring tested good. Parts on order and will arrive within a week to install.

Was interesting that the service guy said they had another one like mine with the same issues recently. They changed the clock spring first and same issues popped back up. 2nd visit they changed the buttons on the steering wheel and the problem did not show back up.

I do have to give props to Matt Bowers Dodge in Baton Rouge for the fantastic service department. Have not had fantastic service like that at a dealership in a very long time.

Let’s see if the button replacement cures it on the repair visit next week.
They’re replacing my buttons. Hope it works.

From the dealer:

Good morning Dan. The truck is finished! We are open until 5:30 pm for pick up. Here is the tech story. We installed a new switch that was shorted out causing both issues. Yes we have been replacing a lot of them!

Keep us posted on whether that fix works and holds. The first time I brought mine in, they replaced one switch that they said power was fed through and appeared to be bad, didn't fix the problem on my truck.
