360 Trailer Surround Camera Install

I recently installed the DRVM camera and I’m already disappointed by its usefulness for backing up. It’s great on the road but not for backing.

You’ve inspired me to add a second camera. I’m leaning towards the Aux camera since I don’t already own the 360.
Well, after a massive amount of research I’m now leaning in the same direction! Most likely going to copy your approach.

I started considering adding the AUX2 single camera as well, but I CANNOT FIND THIS CAMERA ANYWHERE. There is no longer any Mopar part for it. There was also a change in the cameras (or at least the module/gateways) from '22 to '23 and it was very hard to determine part numbers because they changed every single year. I'd love to see you get it working and share the part numbers if you do!

So here is my resulting setup. My rear view camera already had a custom attached steel tube arm extending from my ladder in the back (built by my father in law). So I attached the rear camera from the 360 system to that (the zip ties are to get me up and running until I get a better mount). You can see the difference in the cameras. The left one is the digital rear view mirror camera, the right one is a 360 surround camera. These are about 7ft above the ground.

The thin fakra cable is long enough (12 meters) to put the giant control box waaaay up at the tongue. I followed the same route I used for the rear view camera cable along the underbelly/skirting to the tongue. I have room in my locking metal battery box to put the control module and take up slack. In this pic you can see the rear view camera cord slack and inline repeater on the left, and the huge 360 control box on the right. My battery box has grommeted holes to send cords in/out so it ends up perfect for this application and keeps the entire system external yet protected. I strapped it down tight and added some padding after the pic was taken. But you can see only the rear camera is connected. Since it is up near the hitch I did not need to use the bulky extender cable that adds another several feet in case one mounts the box far from the truck. (for anyone interested in the lock box it is from rvlockbox dot com)

And lastly, here are my views. First pic I'm showing the rear surround camera on the Uconnect and the full screen digital rear view mirror from the trailer. You can see the field of visions compliment each other nicely, and only the drvm stays displayed while at speed. The 2nd image is my favorite view on the drvm, where the trailer rear view is center, and the side mirror cameras are placed on the sides for a running view of the blind spots. I love finally using (almost) all the tech that came with my truck!

In your last image here, what camera view is this? Within trailer surround you can actually zoom in on just the rear camera without the overhead?

90% sure I’m taking the same route as you. I don’t have the prep for the Aux2 I realized and surprising it will be cheaper to buy a surround kit off eBay and go down this route… and likely with better quality.

Correct. The default view when pressing the "Trailer Surround" soft button is a small overhead surround view on the left and a single camera view on the right, starting with the rear. You can select any of the 4 cameras to appear on the right with the overhead view still on the left. However, in the "more cameras" menu under Trailer, you can select just Trailer Rear and get the full screen in the pic I show. You can do this with any of the 4 trailer cameras. I could not get it to zoom full screen straight from the Trailer Surround view, without backing out and going Trailer->Trailer Rear.

I played with it a little and tried to get Trailer Rear to show up in the default list when I press the camera shortcut that is at the top Uconnect status bar. I can't figure that out yet, though its probably a hack available in AlfaOBD. For now I have to press the camera button in the status bar, click More Cameras, click Trailer, then Trailer Rear to get the full screen.

We have a Northern Lite 10.2 loaded onto our 2025 Ram 3500 Bighorn, dually, crew, Hemi. We have the digital rearview mirror—amazing. The package (Wire, camera, and misc. parts) to put the rearview camera on the back of our slide-in Camper is included, but there is about 50 feet of wire length; we need about 12 feet to 15 feet maximum. Is there an option to buy a shorter wire? We also have the 12 pin plug on the bumper, assuming for the surround view. Does this plug essentially replace the camera on the tailgate handle ? No extra parts for it. What would I order to place the camera on the back of the slide-in Camper alongside the rr mirror camera < Once again, only 12 to 15 feet of wire needed. Or is there an option to plug a camera into the tailgate camera plug , as whenever the Camper is on the truck, the tailgate is off, so the plug is available. Any additional thoughts on placement and installation tips on the Camper would be much appreciated.

Edit: Don't do this, see the next post.

Easily done for the DRVM camera, as long as the wiring hasn't changed since the 2022's (I am pretty sure the connector hasn't). I don't know if you'll have to include the repeater or not to get it to work.

The two cables I used were:

And:

That should connect to the little adapter that actually plugs into the bumper receptacle.

Update: Turns out this is a bad idea. It worked at first, but over time the camera connection got flakier and flakier. The really odd part is is also made the CHMSL camera unreliable until the trailer camera was disconnected.

I have since switched back to the stock camera cable which is noticeably thicker, with the extra of the 50' rolled up under the camper, and it's back to normal.

So I would suggest sticking with the stock cable - it must be of a heavier gauge, have a thicker braid or some better shielding.

Thank you for all of your detailed information on this install! Did your truck come with the 360 Trailer Surround View Camera Kit? Primarily asking because I would like to purchase the kit, but my truck (2024 2500 Limited) did not come with the 360 trailer surround view kit, and hence did not come preinstalled with the Trailer Surround View option in the Uconnect system. Various articles on this and other forums suggest that this option can be enabled either at the dealer or through an aftermarket product like AlfaOBD, but figured I'd check again if you had to go through the process. I already have the single coax connector on the bumper for the wired tow mode camera, and have used this to display the video feed on the DRVM, which is phenomenal. My truck also came preinstalled with the 5th wheel prep package, and has the 7 and 12 pin wiring in the truck bed and on the bumper. My assumption is that this should accommodate the trailer 360 surround view kit.

I didn’t need cameras for my 35ft fifth wheel.
Semi drivers don’t need cameras.
Maybe more practice?
Just sayin.

Thanks for the great info. I have the digital rear-view mirror camera on the back of our camper, which works amazingly. We have the 360, and I think the 360 trailer surround view hookup plugs. But we don't have the camera . I have not been able to find one, they say the 2025 requires a different one than the previous years. Do you have any idea where I can get the camera? thanks.
