2025 8 speed - long 3rd, short 4th

2025 Ram 3500 DRW 6.7 Cummins.
I can barely notice when not under load, but when towing my 3rd gear seems very long and doesn't want to shift to 4th. When it does shift to 4th it only stays for a few hundred RPM and then jumps to 5th. Maybe by design, but the irregularity between gears when accelerating under load caught my attention.

Hoping someone has experienced similar or knows if this is normal.

Fast forward to 1:12:00. The entire video is very amazing, but that particular point is where this guy who knows his stuff predicts that the "Powerline" 8 speed is going to be just as problematic.

I feel the 8 speed is leaps ahead of the past transmissions Ram has had. How anyone can suggest that it's going to be an issue this early on is simply nothing more than speculating for no reason.

Did you watch any of it? He explains for over an hour why, with specific details, these new transmissions are having so many problems and why his company is shipping multiple kits per day to properly repair them. The "Powerline" is a ZF design, just like the trans that Ford and GM are using. They all share the same design flaws and a lot of it is because of the top brass at the companies who are dictating the inferior parts.

You should watch the episode from 4 weeks ago or so where the former GM engineer is on there talking specifically about how the OEs ruined the latest transmissions by increasingly going cheap with the valve bodies. That video is even more enlightening. It makes me not want to buy anything new from any company selling trucks right now.

I have been towing 14K with my 2025 3500 up and down 6% grades and apsalutly love the 8 speed.
It's smooth and responsive gear changes pulling up steep grades is a game changer for me. ZF PowerLine has been around for a long long time.with a proven eight-speed design that it has released more than 20 +/- million transmissions. Might not be the exact same transmissions in the HD but with its proven gear box my bet is with them.

It has been proven in other trucks for a long while so that is just youtube garbage. Also as far ag good builders go this is the first I have heard of that company

What I can't understand, is so many wanted a new gear box for Ram HD trucks, so they get one now you have certain people complaining about it because what they heard something on a YouTube platform.

Thats just people who are never satisfied.

I figured as much, expecially when he said he was contacting ZF trying to help them fix the issues they have I knew he was full of it

So to be clear, you're saying the guy is straight faced lying?

That's pretty bold. To call a guy a liar who clearly knows his stuff. Just by listening to him you can tell he's brilliant.

Who's complaining? I haven't seen that yet.

All I've seen is a few guys who have issues with them in their new $80k trucks and they're asking if it's normal, and some videos where an engineer who makes a living designing better parts for new transmissions talks about how he's already designing fixes for the Powerline. No where do I see people complaining about Ram bringing a new transmission to the table.

What I can't understand is so many don't know how to process information when they read/hear it.

Any idiot can make rambling youtube videos and make all kinds of false statements to boost views and comments to make more money off the video…. The powerline 8 has been proven to be a great trans this guy does not have the same record

This guy has a horrible track record hos reviews are doctored according to a claim on the BBB his transmissions have a horrible reputation and his warranty is almost non existent as they will blame everything other than the trans. Take a ride on the google freight train you will see he has the worst reputation I have ever seen from a trans builder and he has only had 7 years to rack up that terrible rep unlike ATS who have been at it for decades

I would take it as someone wanting to sell uneeded parts to a manufacturer. Every siingle person I have spoke to love the new transmission my self included. This dosnt mean that you won't have issues just not to the exstream of one person's appinion on a youtube broadcast.
Regarding processing information, any information can be inaccurate, misleading, or intentionally false. It's important to critically evaluate information, and consider the source, and seek corroborating evidence before accepting something as being true.

ZF was not involved in the "derivative" design of the 10R140.

ZF designed the trans for Ram.

Big difference. HUGE Difference.

There is also plenty of reports that he does not even build transmissions its the other shop that is in the same building he is just rebranding under a different LLC.

He also acording to him has all these fixes for the powerline but nothing shows up on his website for them…. Read between the lines the guy is a crook and a liar 100%

Just a chime in here not saying it’s not true or true. But as a business owner for the last 30 some years, we need to watch what we say or put in writing. if it’s true then that’s fine but if it’s not true, and you can’t prove it, it’s defamation of character.

Statements of opinion are generally not considered defamation, as they are subjective and not factual.

He didn't say he sells fixes for the Powerline. He said they just bought one to start creating the fixes for it. I don't know how long it'll take to get the parts to market, but since it's the same exact concept as the 10-speed GM and Ford use I wouldn't expect that it will take very long.
