TPMS (TIS) sensors for trailer (SOLVED - see 1st post) aka TTPMS - Trailer TPMS

I don't know the length of trailer you are planning on towing but the system sucks on my 44' toy hauler. I went back to my tireminder system that actually works

I have a 40ft PJ gooseneck but remember the two axles aren’t 40ft back. Also a 32ft PJ gooseneck.
I’m READY to ORDER the parts, just need to figure out which is the best place to order from.

Here’s something cool I just learned about.
I think since I’ve already bought the WIFI VLINK and OBD cable having the JScan and alfaOBD will allow me to do more option.

OBDGenie's, AEV, Infotainment, etc. programmers are all one trick ponies.

Stick with JScan and/or AlfaOBD.

Just make sure you follow the steps to backup/save your BCM config files/logs so you can put stuff back if you break it.

(please don't PM me asking for that thread...) :-)

Part of the learning process is the journey... Though do reach out to the membership at large before spending on stuff you're not sure about.

brutal-ho, anybody….
There was a post in a thread that had some suggestions of the (then) best places to orders the parts from… I’m currently looking for that post so I can place the orders for the hardware and the sensors from the other place.

I posted right below your question 4 posts up.

Apologies in advance if I missed it... I started at page 23 and scrolled along the past few days and could quite conceivably have missed it... my 2024 2500 has the full TTPMS system from the factory and sensors are under the backseat, so I skipped over anything seemingly related to installing the system after the fact.

I saw the posts from Brutal that the sensors from aftermarket TTPMS systems like TireMinder and TireLinc don't work with the RAM system. Which is a shame, I was hoping I could pair a set of those to use with trailers I rent or borrow. I know, it was a moonshot hope.

Has anyone determined if there are aftermarket replacement OE style sensors for the TTPMS system? I'm thinking 10 years down the road when they need to be replaced, there's no guarantee the Mopar branded sensors won't be discontinued. We've run into that issue in the group for my 2002 300M - we figured out the OEM supplier was Schrader and have been buying those for 20 years, but it seems like even Schrader stopped making the specific sensors for our cars and all the ones we get now are already 10-15 years old. Just bought one for my 23 year old spare tire on closeout and I'm crossing my fingers that the battery really did sleep for the past 10 years.

Rock Auto shows 4 listings. Two Continental part numbers and two Mopar part numbers. It does show distinct part numbers for sensors for the truck and sensors for trailers, with trailer sensors 50% more expensive. I'm planning to pop the set included at the factory into a future travel trailer we're buying later this year or next, or possibly saving them for a future car hauler for the Chrysler and our '29 Ford, and get the TireLinc system for the travel trailer since Grand Design preps its Imagine trailers for that system.

But, eventually I will need replacements for whichever trailer (or both if the RAM system works well enough for us), so if we know who is the OE supplier (Schrader? Continental?), that would help saving costs down the road.

The company Schrader sold off their tire sensor manufacturing division is what they told me directly on the phone.
The company that purchased it is called

Sensata
1-800-288-1804

Tire Pressure Sensor.

I am in the process of installing and configuring the O/E Ram TTPMS on my 24 Power Wagon/Rebel 2500 HD, which the dealer failed to have installed from the factory. I have the hardware installed and hopefully flashing it into the BCM soon. The receiver module is a Schrader and says it uses frequency 433.92Mhz.

I have an Autel TS 508 and I'm going to see if "generic" 433Mhz transmitters are recognized by the system. I'm giving it a 50/50 shot as Mopar TPMS are EXTREMELY finicky with sensors. (My wife's 21 Laramie 1500 wouldn't recognize programmed units and I needed to clone the factory units for her winter wheels...) Mopar sensors are also 5 times more costly than generic sensors. Too bad since GM's happily use the cheapo's.

There is a lot of talk about trailer sensors having a stronger signal than car/truck units. I have doubts about this as this would not only shorten the battery life, but probably would not comply with FCC regs. They're marketed as a specialty, so they charge more.

Like most others on this multi year thread, I walked out of the dealership snubbed by parts & service personnel.

Even IF generics are compatible but are less powerful, the cost savings and ease of procurement ARE to me worth the cost and time to extend my receiver to my trailer. Especially with so many people determining trailer length (distance from wheel to receiver) to be an issue.

I should know if the generics show up as compatible on my scanner soon, and I'll update this post.

Even if I get my truck configured, I won't have my camper out of storage for several weeks. I do have a couple other smaller trailers I might try to set up if I can use cheap sensors.

Here is a picture of the receiver I just installed. PXL_20250328_190643880.jpg

I’ve now got all the parts here and installed.

Where are the detailed instructions for how to use the vlink , y cable, JScan or Alfa OBD ?

I think the Alfa OBD is only for the android phone.

Sure could use some help getting this to the finishline.

Thanks,
Ronald S.

Just got my 2025 3500 Limited delivered from Mark Dodge this afternoon. In the truck were the TTPMS wheel sensors with the Part#: P68433188AA. I'm pretty sure that this part number is the same since the 2020 model year.

Would a wheel sensor have any range improvements just by being released as late as a 2025? And, has RAM ever released any receivers or sensors that deal with the heavy aluminum trailer wheel/limited range issue?

In the meantime, I'll continue to use my relocated receiver which I removed from the truck and installed 25' further back in my 5th Wheel's bellypan.

I believe this has been covered and proven that no other sensors work - even though they use the same frequency - so don't waste your time. Hell, even the OEM sensors don't work on anything longer than a landscape trailer.

If I remember correctly, Brutal_HO did a write-up on this years ago.

Was the part you moved back the part/module that typically mounts behind the license plate in the rear bumper OR the TIM module that is typically located up in the right rear headliner ?

I removed the receiver from the back of license plate and mounted it centered a few feet from the trailer tires on my 38’ 5th Wheel. Then made a four wire extension cord back to the original plug back behind the license plate.
Finally works! Always been a range issue.
There are instructions how to do this earlier in this topic.

Ok this is good to know. I’m hooking up for a 40 PJ trailer gooseneck. I’m working with a 2024 RAM 3500 dually. Love the truck. HO I6 / AISIN Transmission. I’m Stepping up from a 2006 MegaCab 2500

Ive got the modules installed and eight factory sensors in the tires already.
I’m not familiar with messing with OBD stuff but good with computers in general.
But trying to figure out where the detailed instructions to follow for security bypass, JScan, and the wireless OBD plugin vLinker MC+ from VGate. (Amazon)
..and the Y cable.
I think my BCM is behind the dash cluster.
I bought an extension to only have to go in once behind the cluster on this 2024 RAM3500.
It drops the cable connections down around the steering column.
I need to decide on which OBD program to use. Gotta find a laptop with windows for the AlfaOBD.
The “AlfaOBD” seems to be a more popular choice over the “JScan”.. and I think either has to be purchased.

Unless you got a KAOdTECH style bypass cable, you got the wrong one. If you have a 12+8 "y-cable" that's for 5th gen 1500 trucks.

You're mixing metaphors so to speak. We don't plug into the BCM (which is not located behind the dash cluster), we bypass the SGM (which is). You do that by plugging a cable into the CAN-C and CAN-IHS bus blocks that are on the driver side kick panel above the emergency brake and can be seen behind the headlight switch bezel ounce you pull it.

Here are photos of the cable and link I have.

At the moment I don’t have a good laptop with Windows on it.
