New Member looking for help on a 2020 3500 DRW air suspension calibration issue

Howdy folks! Just found this forum and it looks like there are a lot of smart people here, which is just what I need! I've got a new to me 2020 RAM 3500 DRW with the rear only air suspension. One of the bags had a slow leak, so we just replaced them both. The system sounds like it is all working ok, but we have the dashboard message that says to "Service Air Suspension Immediately" or something to that effect. My scan tool returns a code of C156E-00 Ride Height System Calibration Performance. Which, when I research it says that the system needs to be calibrated. We also have an intermittent code of C2212-00 ECU in Plant Mode.

I have tried 3 different scan tools that all have the options for adaptations and writing the ride height into the ECU. The service manual has a procedure for measuring the empty ride height and then entering this data into the scan tool to effectively tell the Air Suspension Control Module where the starting ride height is. One scan tool allows me to enter this data but then tells me that the ECU returned an invalid parameter and the process fails. The other scan tools give me the ECU invalid response before I even get to the screen for entering the ride height.

Some of the other random messages I get from the scan tools tell me that ride height can't be set because the system has not been enabled. The scan tools themselves don't have an option to "Enable" the system, and I don't see an option for this in the vehicle apps either. So, to sum things up, it appears to be telling me that the air system requires calibration, but when I try to calibrate it using the scan tool, it tells me that it can't complete the process because the system isn't calibrated.

I have the instructions for performing the calibration procedure from ALLDATA DIY, but so far I am having no success and seem to be chasing my tail in circles.

Would somebody on this forum be able to point me in the right direction?

@CdnHO has just recently went through the calibration procedure on his 3500 using jscan, hopefully he will reply to this and give some pointers.

Thanks for the update. I can do a search for posts by him. jscan is one of the tools I was attempting to use. It got me further than my $800 and $1900 scan tools.

J-Scan worked for me. However I was using his beta currently in development. The "current" version has a bug that prevented saving the calibrations settings. Contact the developer through "J-Scan Lovers" on facebook and sign up for the beta. That will fix your calibration issue. I have gone through three different scanners. The last one, a TopDon Phoenix Elite showed promise but a bug in the data entry screen prevented it from writing the calibration settings. However their Customer Support is excellent and they are working on a fix. Given all that, the easiest and cheapest fix is using the J-Scan. Get the beta through the developer. He is looking for Beta testers.

Once you get the beta installed be sure to make the calibration adjustments through "Adaptations" since it contains a routine the ASCM must go through prior to saving the settings. I made the mistake of going through the "Module" section.
 
Just an update. As the OP did, I tried three different scan tools plus JScan to calibrate the air suspension. All failed. The scan tools conduct a procedure where they set the normal ride height and wipe out the current settings. No way to go back. So if you can't enter the ride height values, you are screwed with a non functioning air suspension and a warning light on the cluster. The guy that developed JScan came to the rescue and got me up and running with a beta version for IOS devices. I returned all the scan tools except the last one, a TopDon Phoenix Elite even though it had the same issue as the X-Tool and Autel. Tech support at TopDon was excellent. They are US based and worked to correct the issue. At one point logging into my scanner and trying to get it working. After four software updates they got the tool working and able to write the values to the ASCM. I have to hand it to TopDon, they stuck with it and fixed it. The updated software will now be pushed to all TopDon tools. I assume this was not a common issue.

For anyone running into this issue, contact Piotor at JScan on the JScan Lovers Facebook page and message him to take part in the beta version. Works great. While working with TopDon tech support, I used JScan to correct the error that was caused by the TopDon tool each time.
