As an aside does the front locker work now with out re-wiring and adding a computer like 2018 and older PWs? Really hoping to not have to do that again.
The front locker works if you’re in 4wd and have the rear locker on.

Excellent, never could get a straight answer if that design flaw had been fixed. Good for us, bad for the aftermarket. I ordered the module with out the override switch for my 2018, which means BAM they come on. Now that I am getting close to getting rid of it, it makes me a little nervous. Hopefully I can just private party sell it so I can educate the new buyer not to turn them on, say cruising at highway speed.

How is that different from the 2018 locker function?

Prior to 2019 at least Low Range was required as well as 4x4, but the nannies would fail to allow it to come on for some, complex reason. Sometimes you might get it on eventually, other times it simply would never come on. For those that need it at times this was unacceptable. It was also the greatest embarrassment to RAM, as hundreds and hundreds of videos of Automotive Journalist sitting there trying to get it on, eventually giving up were added to you tube and reviews. Not a good look at all. A community member built expensive boxes for about 3K to over ride the nannies and make it work. A consequence also was you could use both lockers in 4H as well which is handy, especially in mud or snow some times. The switches are TOTALLY different in 2019, but I had no idea if that actually including a fix to the flaw.

Ahh. To be clear, the front locker requires low range. The rear will work in 2wd, but unlocks at 25mph.

I cant remember if the rear locker worked in 2wd or 4x4 H or not before. I had to install the overide box ASAP as I have a badddd hill in the winter. The Smart Bar never worked, but decided I did not need that really.

HP ratings are based on standard equipment. 2022 had 180 amp alternator standard. 2025 has 200 amp alternator standard. Assuming no tuning changes on the 2025 hemi, that’s where 5 rated HP would have gone.

My 22 has a 220 amp alternator. Hard to believe a few amps would make that much hp difference

I'm wondering if the 405 horsepower was rounded to nearest five (5) in increments down from the 410 horsepower of our 2016 Ram 2500 6.4L.

All of the vehicles we've owned since my first 1968 Ford V8 was stated as either 230 or 235 HP depending on the Ford/Mercury sales literature, but they are both evenly divisible by five (5). Our 2024 Ram 3500 at 420 HP is jumping up to 430 HP for 2025, but it's not 428 or 432 HP. Our 1978 Chevrolet pickup is 80 HP which was up from the 75 HP in prior years. Our 1978 Mercruiser 898 (305 V8) is 198 HP (not 195 or 200) though being a marine engine, whereas, our 1998 Chevrolet K1500 305 V8 is 230 HP.

I believe the ability to use the rest locker is 4Hi and 2Hi was a change implemented in 2019.

It’s just odd it’s been rated at 410hp for 10 years (since it was released in 2014) and all of a sudden it’s got a reduced rating

The 2025s are on the "Atlantis" architecture, which is an entirely different CAN system, so it's highly unlikely it'll be compatible.

That aside, the shifter/button assembly is basically a small computer on the CAN. The locker buttons are sending signals over the bus, so you'd need to grab the wires elsewhere. The computer is also looking for a locked/unlocked signal to return, so you'd need to work that out somehow.
Too bad on the new architecture, I was wondering if I could basically splice in a few wires, but perhaps it's not a button like other buttons I'm thinking of. These trucks are great but lots of complexity. I wish this stuff was open source.

I’m interested in the updated Cummins, I had a 20 3/4 ton limited with the SO Cummins that I traded for a 22 1 ton longhorn HO. I love truck, have about 50k on it and have had no major concerns beyond a leak between the transmission and transfer case.

Historically I would be looking at new trucks at 3 years and 50 or 60k miles, but into some of the things they changed… curious what others think about:

Additions I don’t like:
- there screen in the upper glove box door
- the light headliner on the Long Horn
- the strange brown denim looking material on the longhorn seats and door panels instead of leather
- the non-return of the wood top on limited and longhorn steering wheels that they pulled going into 2023 (I love the wood steering wheel… leather starts looking worn and shiny pretty fast under heavy use.
- the all digital cluster on the Laramie and up… I love the real gauges and how the cluster is set up on the 19-22 Limited and Longhorns
- the giant RAM letters access the tailgate

Items I think are newly removed that I would miss:
- the new headlights that do not appear to turn with the steering on the limited and longhorns
- the absence of a unique grill to differentiate the long horn and the limited… I hated the limited grill because it was hard to clean, but I love the flat bars on the longhorn grill
- no 18 inch wheel option for the long horns… I think they look the best of all options with the white letter tires, and they are more forgiving of harsh roads and balance issues
- same wheels for long horn and limited

Like i noted above, curious what others think… I am going to need to drive one as they become available, I agree that the 6 spd is pretty hard to live with when not towing or running highway speed… especially with the Asian… that said, I don’t worry about the Asian blowing up on me like the fords do at 100 ish k.

Sounds like just appearance crap to me, could care less. That being said, the other screen will be AWESOME on family road trips. Not being locked out from using features while you are driving. Your passenger can look things up while you are driving. Pretty smart. Yes, you can use a phone. But the screen is easier.

I have ordered a 2025 Longhorn, and the steering wheel look the same as our 2020 Longhorn has wood on the bottom. The one thing I will miss is the auto air level rear suspension.

they dropped the wood top on the wheel, I like the wood top because it keeps the wheel from getting trashed.

Appearance stuff maybe… but things like the wood wheel, digital gauges are a matter of function. Maybe the new digital clusters are better than they used to be but I know even my 12 inch screen gets stupid in extreme cold and hot. Beyond that I think it’s just a matter of how well the thing will age.

My order just moved from "order confirmed" to "scheduled". How long does the truck sit at this stage before it moves to production?

If they were smart, they’d make these trucks easy to add on parts. Just mark up the pieces so it’s more expensive than packaging it.

Want to add steering wheel controls? Here’s an OEM kit. Want to add massaging seats? Hers an OEM kit. Just break down every single option so you can DIY at a slightly higher price than ordering it complete from factory.
