2019 2500 6.4L - Moving from TT to 5th wheel help

When I had my F350 dually blah, blah, blah, it was registered with a GVWR of 26000 pounds. When I traded it in on this truck the DMV folks suggested I simply transfer my plate to the new truck since I had so much time left until renewal, so I did. Until that plate expired my Ram 2500 was registered with a GVWR of 26000 pounds. When I went to renew the folks at the DMV said it would be cheaper for me to keep my class B plate but reduce the GVWR. Since it had to be over 10000 pounds to qualify as a class B they registered it for 11000 pounds GVWR.

Interesting!

My 2500 was registered with a GVWR of 0 (zero) for the first three years I owned it. I found out because the first three years are emissions exempt and >8k lb are also emissions exempt. After three years I went to renew and the system prompted me that I needed an emissions report for the truck.

Registration showed 0 on the GVWR. I noticed that and never thought much of it, just assumed it was because it was over 8k. Got it sorted out fairly quickly and easily over the phone with the DMV and registration now shows 10k as it should. Apparently the selling dealer submitted the paperwork with GVWR as 0 or left it blank

When I bought my 2020 2500 they registered it in NC as 0 pounds as well.

There is no law requiring anyone to follow the owners manual anywhere
Go ahead and quote yourself in court and see how that works out for you.

There are actually legal requirements related to minimum safety equipment, emissions equipment and warranty within the manual. It is referred to by the FTC and NHTSA in several documents.

I have a 6.4 with 4.10s also and pull a toy hauler it weighs 11500 to 12000lbs. It pulls it ok I can maintain at the speed limits. Some long hills of Utah are ok but not fun. We use this trailer a handful of times a summer. If I pulled any more weight or more often I would look into a Diesel. Over all I am happy with the 6.4 Hemi. I would not pull 17000 it. Good luck to you. We all have different needs.

This right here is the answer.

Ok ill play your silly game… the manual clearly shows a 2500 with a 5th wheel hitch is rated for a maximum towing at 25,000 lbs or the GN 20,000lbs or 20,000 lbs class 5 hitch so does that mean it can tow it? The manual is not a legally binding document never has been never will be ( most are more even giving the owners a manual these days)

You have totally missed the point. But, to the silly game you think it is, there are legal requirements within a user manual for a vehicle...even for a used vehicle. It's also legally required to be provided and if it is not printed, courts have ruled that electronic versions are acceptable if a pathway to get them is provided to, and free to the consumer.
