Official 2025 Ram HD

Hey AI, make me a picture of a Chinese knockoff RAM 2500 Rebel. The others aren't hideous, but it really bothers me that the led strip isn't lined up with anything and is just off center of the c part of the grill.

I always thought it was kind of weird the 2014’s were never considered a “gen 4.5” even though they changed the front suspension to from 4-link to 3-link/radius arm, and rear suspension on the 2500s from leaf spring to multilink coil spring. And added the Hemi 6.4 as an option. Pretty major mechanical changes.
so a four and three quarter gen.
This is 4.875 Gen at this point lol

One of the details that’s always bothered me is the lack of a matching lower grille, unless you decided to get a Tradesman.

For the most part the big open ‘mesh’ design of the lower grille mostly worked with whatever trim specific primary grille you ended up with.

Not so much now, especially on the PW/Rebel, that thing is a horrible mish-mash of straight lines which doesn’t fit in at all with the lower grille.

The Laramie grille, or whatever trim level the red truck is, isn’t too bad. I much prefer that split slat look over the current Laramie grille design.

Overall I think this refresh was a swing and a miss, they all pretty much look like the pigs from Angry Birds IMO.

At least with a power wagon there is no lower grille with the winch

Glad I got a 23. That Rebel grill is one of the top 5 ugliest grills I’ve ever seen on a vehicle. The headlights are pretty bad too.

So no updated cab which means the only way to get a full size rear seat is the mega cab which also means only a 6’4” bed. After only ever buying Ram trucks, I may actually order my first GMC this winter.

I was a die hard Ram/Dodge/Jeep guy from the early 2000s until just a year or two ago. My problem with the 2025 HD truck is that they are STILL using the cab that we first saw in late 2008. In the pickup truck world, 17 years is an eternity. The gas engine has been around for 13 years unchanged. The interior has been around for 6 years unchanged. It's absolutely ridiculous that Ram refuses to give their customers an all new truck. Absolutely ridiculous.

What they NEED is an all new chassis from the ground up, with an all new body and interior, and a heavy update to the gas engine. If they revised the Hemi they could easily get 430 HP/ 480 lb.ft. out of it and then it would be very competitive with the Ford. I have no problem with the ZF 8 speed staying around as it's a much more reliable, smoother, and overall better transmission than Ford's 10R. But they desperately need to update the rest of the powertrain, body, and chassis.

I believe the reason they are the only brand now showing heavy sales losses quarter after quarter is because their product has gotten so stale and outdated. They have always been excellent trucks, but if a guy is spending $75k he wants the latest and greatest.

Ford kept the same interior and cab for 18 years never had an issue with sales.

Personally i care more about the function and capability of the truck to be a work horse than i do about gismos and gadgets. Thats why i like the tradesman over a limited personally.

I remember seeing something recently that showed more bighorn and tradesman trucks sold than the higher trims.

I dunno…. The crew cab could use some more room in the back seat, but the mega cab more than makes up for it, if you can live with the short bed. Their interiors are best of the bunch in my opinion and they’ve been keeping up in technology pretty well. I expect this refresh to catch them up on tech entirely. If the 8-speed ZF ends up being as strong as we hope and they bump the power numbers up just a bit, I don’t see how they’re not competitive with Ford or Chevy regardless of how old the sheetmetal is. Personally, I prefer the flowing quarter panels and bed sides to Fords boxy aesthetic… Fords DRW looks especially awful next to a Ram.

The new trans and more powerful diesel is going to do a ton for them. IF they can up the GVWR of the 2500 up to 1100 lbs… they might really have something. I’ve got an awful feeling they’re gonna stick with 10k though and I think that’s the real reason they struggle against the other brands. Why would someone buy a Ram with less power and less capability?

This thing looks like the Ram design team entered a contest with Chevy's design team on who could make the ugliest truck and won.

The Rebel grill and headlights are horrendous.

What’s not “full size” about the seat in the CC trucks?

Have you not seen them? They aren't physically full size. It's not a trick statement. The center of the seat is cut out for a 3 year old. The other 60% is a little smaller than the seat in the 5th Gen cab.

If I could readily get a Big Horn with leather, the smaller infotainment package and LED exterior lighting then that’s the way I would go pretty much every time.

Because of that I ended up going with the Laramie trim. Don’t get me wrong, it’s definitely nice but I really don’t use most of the stuff day in and day out, and I drive a fair amount daily for work.

Before I bought my 2500 I had a deposit on one of the last 1500 Ecodiesels. The back seat of the 5th gen cab is a huge improvement over the 4th gen. Between the flat floor in the rear and the couple extra inches of legroom it’s a nice in between of the 4th gen cab and a Megacab.

Ultimately I got tired of having my money tied up on a deposit due to Rams inability to address the stop sale in place due to the HPFP recall. Made the jump to an HD and haven’t looked back, despite some of the short comings.

The flat floor in the 5th gen can and new Fords and Chevys is nice and definitely bigger, but to say the Crew Cab HD is not “full size” is silly.
Agreed. I've sat in the back of a 2500 CC 3-across with some big guys and I haven't had any real complaints. Did I have the sense that I was in a limousine, like you do in the 5th gen, no; definitely not. but my knees weren't rubbing and I was comfortable. the CC is full-size and feels "enough", but it's nothing to write home about for sure. mega cab is where it's at though.

Yeah, I have one. The seat in the MC may be bigger, but there’s nothing not full size about the one in the CC. I’m 6’ tall and I can sit back there no problem.

The new headlights and grille are not something I can see growing on me. The new tradesman grille is the least offensive of the three they shared, and almost palatable, but the laramie and rebel/PW grilles are not good in my opinion.

As much as I love tech, and as much as I want to see cool tech in these trucks, I have close to 0 faith in FCAs ability to build quality tech. We are going on 6 MYs without full screen AA, even while Carplay is supported. Some of the basic tech is well supported, but the newer the tech, the more finicky it is, again in my opinion.

I would love a new cab, but not so much a visual design as wanting the fully flat rear floor, and slightly larger rear legroom, and the pano moonroof.

I much prefer the pre mirror change of the dodge trucks, mirrors still haven't grown on me.

Now, that said I am eager to see what the new ZF looks like. More gears should enable better MPG both loaded and unloaded. I'm also somewhat hopeful that the new ZF won't have such a crazy first gear, or if it does it's dedicated to towing (ie. only start in first gear with tow/haul engaged). Right now, the Aisin 1st gear is more like a LL gear than a first gear.

I'll also give it to ram that I'm sort of digging the new tail lights, look much closer to an "updated 4th gen" tail than the current ones. Curious to see the full line up.

I'm also interested in seeing what, if any, changes they made to the Cummins.
