Too much oil and poor dealer help

What's the latest, mate?

What's the latest, mate?

Well they did live testing, found the injectors are reading as they are injecting too much fuel. They think too much fuel is causing regen as all the readings are off. They have taken covers off the motor and inspected it as much as possible. They can't figure where the vibration or knocking is coming from, the manager put in for a long block replacement. I will know more this next week what the plan is.

Sounds like they’re doing their part to figure out the root cause.

Looks like you found a better dealer who seems to care. Buyback is definitely better but hopefully approved for the long block at minimum with new injectors too

Yep it's a lot better dealer, they actually listen and don't think they are God. Showed them photos of my turbo and oil it was eating. They stripped it down and took photos ad it could be a issue for sure. He requested a long block as it will come with new injectors sensors and what not. Pretty much replace everything with new and start over, they will be chasing issues forever and will never know what the real problem is.

I stopped in at the dealer today. They said they never got the approval to pull cover and pan, but did a return flow test showing bad injectors. New injectors are on order and should be here in a week or so. Since Ram wont pay for them to pull my pan to inspect main bearings, ive asked to get a quote and pay out of pocket myself.

If you pay for them to pull it and find bearing wiped, which we know they probably will, what happens then?

I would hope that since it is a Ram certified center and mechanic they wont have a choice. The very first things i told the last dealership was i think i have a bad injector or two, and it is recorded on my service records. it will also show dealership and Ram both over looked it, and 6 months later here they are replacing them lol. This manager is doing everything he can to get Ram to budge while keeping his job.

Do I understand correctly that the other dealer you had it at did not do or have a bench test done for flow and return on your injectors, to the best of my limited knowledge the only way to properly test them?

Have they pulled the exhaust manifolds? You mentioned exhaust smell in the cab and I just saw a video today where a 22 cummins was having Regen issues and they saw soot near cylinder 6. After pulling the manifolds they found the gaskets were all blown out and melted causing all sorts of downstream issues including excess regen.

I thought about your situation as I watched and wanted to just call it out as a possibility.

Lol you think they would or done that test but they did not. They performed a power balance test and supposedly pulled injectors and sent them out for testing. They also performed a leak test twice on the HPFP.

They did not. there are so many issues that can mess with the system and they do know where to start. Do you have a link to the video? It would nice to add a potential issue to the list.

This is not the first time I have read about injectors being found to be bad when properly bench tested after having a power balance balance test showing they were good ( this is why I don't trust power balance test) whom ever they sent them to must not know what the heck they are doing.. As the old saying goes either do it right the first time or not do it at all comes to mind....

Yeah power balance test really only shows if they are opening or closing, no real data comes from it. The only real way to know is to pull them for a bench test and flow test. I would guess the last dealer never actually tested them and just gave me some bogus report. The new dealership said its not common for Ram to send them out for testing vs flow test first and just replace.

COST for them to drop the oil pan and do inspection $2,400 for anyone wanting to know. They said they will perform the inspection once my injectors show up 2.5 weeks.

$2400 bucks to drop the pan and inspect the crank!!

What pile crap. What's a measly couple hundred to RAM for this inspection, especially since you've documented the most thorough run-around in the history of Stellantis!
[edit] I just read where you were quoted $2400 to drop the pan and inspect crank. I'll do it for $2200!
