Automatic Regen too often

Edit : Just want to add, with the metal flapper at the top of the fuel neck, it’s a PITA to put in the additive - just sayin.
I didn't have any problems putting in either the 6400d or the 6500 in to my tank using the Archoil bottle....

I’ve only owned my 2020 for a few months but it’s operated as designed until the last two weeks. Not quite like everyone here but two days ago it completed regen, dpf reading sent to 0. The next day after running daily routines which isn’t ideal for these trucks, I’ll admit, it was 35-40%. I don’t see to get passive regen as much and oddly enough @mbarber84 mentioned his changed with ambient temp and it’s been ridiculously hot here. Not sure if it’s correlated but I’m keeping an eye on it. Everything about the truck, how it’s used and driven has been the same, only variable is ambient temperature. I’m 4 hours since regen and still sitting 35-40% with no passive regen like it did before. I really don’t want to get rid of the system as designed but have no patience or faith in local dealers to handle it becoming an issue

Never said I had a problem, just mentioned it was a pain in the a$$ with the metal flapper up top, I prefer a standard fill neck - wide open. I will however use the funnel under the seat I had forgotten about.

Your truck sounds like a good candidate for the Archoil. It has helped my truck and others. I haven’t had any regen problems like some others have had but it does have times when it starts regening at 10-12 hours, 3-400 miles and during warmer weather. Since the last regen I had with the AR6400D additive in the fuel, Ive gone 576 miles and 14 hours with the DPF gauge still on zero. That’s with some highway driving, a good bit of stop and go, and some idling. Now if some underlying issue occurs, all bets are off.

Does anyone know the ID of the dipstick tube? I want to go to the dealer and pull an oil sample but can't measure it beforehand since it's at the dealership? Thanks for any help!

I know this has been beat to death but I can’t find a good answer to this other than “drive it harder”. I have a 2022 Ram 2500 with a Cummins (not high output) at roughly 8500 miles I got the regen too often code and my mileage dropped from roughly 17 average to 14, took it to the dealer and they said I need to drive it harder. At this point my towing miles were at 2,000 miles so I’m towing 9k lbs 25% of the time. I know that’s not a lot.

At 9,00 miles (500 miles later) my mpg is down to 12.6 and I get another regents too often code. Back to the dealer and they tell me ”you need to drive it harder” they do the manual regen and send me on my way.

Now I start tracking my auto regen from the dpf screen, I leave the dealer still in auto regen, put 363 miles on the truck at highway speeds up and down canyons, auto regen finally shuts off…. For 22 miles, truck goes back into auto regen, I have 263 miles since then and the truck is still in auto regen. That 263 miles is me flooring it from every stop light and averaging roughly 90mph on the Highway, hitting 102 at times which apparently is the top speed for the truck. Around 150 miles into this regen I hooked a 4k lbs trailer to the truck and started just driving around with that trailer connected to try and get it out of regen. Mileage is still at 12.8ish.

Called the dealer last night and they said all they can do is put it in manual regen in the parking lot. They tell me they have one other person with this problem and that it’s my driving habits. At this point I’m calling BS, I have about 20 diesel trucks in my parking lot at work, most these guys live within 20 miles of this place and pretty much all of them still have brand new hitches on their trucks, all of them that I talk to either tow smaller trailers than I do, or less often or not at all. I’m having a hard time believing it’s my driving habits when 25% of my miles are towing and only one other customer has this problem. Has anyone else found a fix for this? Thanks!
My 2020 2500 has very similar issues. Many trips to the dealer with a DPF filter replacement, forced regen’s and latest attempt was to replace the EGR valve. All in 3 months on a truck with 22k miles. They need a better handle on this problem than “drive it harder “.

It measures 3/8” outside so 1/4” od tubing should work. I measured it in the middle of the tube. Hope this helps.

1/4 will not work... It will go down the tube but hits maybe the windage tray or something... Use 3/16 od.

113 miles and 6 hours, here I am. Sure hope this isn’t a beginning of disaster. I have the right air filter as well.

That sounds like a lot of city and/or idle time at an avg of 18 mph, so not that surprising.

Had a regen this morning after a worst ever 59 miles. Oddly, at next restart iDash was at 5. Lowest I’ve ever seen after a regen even a 24 hr regen from highway driving. Go figure.

Thankfully, Archoil order arrived today. Put in a 1-1/2 bottles of AR6400-D cleaner (55gal S&B tank). Going on a long highway trip next week so should help it get really clean. Will add the AR6500 treatment after that and see how she does. Fingers crossed.

I think my truck is doing as designed. When towing it passively regens well, and on long highway drives, too. My daily city driving is what it doesn’t like and why I get 100-150mi between regens. It’s not right but sounds like this is how they engineered these to function.

Dumb question because I don't remember - I was unable to siphon oil from the dip stick tube while at the dealer. I used 3/16 OD hose but it stops right where tube and crank case go together. Of course I failed to look at the oil drain plug underneath, but plan to go back and let a little out that way. If memory serves correct it's a 3/8 ratchet (no socket) to pull the plug. Is this correct? I'd rather not drag my whole tool box across the dealers lot, but will have it in my secondary truck just in case. I do, however, want to make sure I'm prepared and don't have to go back again ‍

Yes bought it used. But it has never done this until this past two weeks
It could be something minor like a clamp on a charge air hose but there’s so many things that can cause early regens. These trucks are very picky.
I would try the Archoil 6400D cleaner and see what and if it makes any difference. It made a world of difference for my truck. I don’t want to sound like a salesman or a witch doctor, but I have seen the difference it made for my truck. I have intentionally made shorter trips, idling, which is something I never do and running 2 lane highways for lower speeds and the DPF gauge is still on zero after 625 miles and 16 hours. It regened at 396 miles and 11 hours right after adding the additive.

I’ll add that I’m 2 tanks past using the cleaner, using the daily treatment, while it does still passively regen quicker, you still need hwy time. I’ve noticed with stop and go traffic it will still build but not as quick. It’s cleaners are still working, they’re just not as concentrated as the cleaner itself.

I’m on my first tank of the every tank additive now. Haven’t burned much of it. I do jump on the interstate fairly often and run it up to 75 or so for 15-20 miles but Im still amazed the gauge hasn’t moved at all.

I'm not sure what size of tube is on the my UOA suction pump I bought from Amsoil, but I was able to easily get the tube down dip stick tube far enough to get an oil sample on my truck its a 2022
