I am new to this forum and to Ram Trucks. I am hoping to see if anyone has some thoughts about what I am experiencing with my 2023 Ram 2500 w/6.4L and 8-speed transmission. When driving the truck without a load, or towing if I accelerate to 60-65 mph at a reasonable pace the transmission does not seem to shift into 8th. The engine runs at or just over 2000 rpm with the cruise on. If I accelerate to say 70-72 mph and then leave the truck coast back to the 60-65 mph range the transmission seems to go into 8th and the engine rpm's are about 1800. I bought the truck used with 2400 miles on it and was wondering if this is normal or if maybe there is a break-in period for the engine or transmission that I need to work through before it will shift into 8th at the lower highway speeds with light loads. The truck has 3.73 gears and is 100% stock. I live in the upper mid-west and highway speeds are in the 60-70 mph range, I do not encounter the higher speeds some states have out west.
Thank you
