Have a 2022 2500 diesel and have driven it for just over a year now (22,000 miles). Today for the first time I got a message on the cluster that regen was happening and I should continue to drive. I have never received this message before but know that the truck regens as my fuel economy goes down and I can then view on the vehicle information window. Any idea why I get the message now?

That means that your truck was unable to complete a normal active regen, either due to driving conditions or a DPF system fault.

What has your last few hours of driving been like?

fairly normal city driving, nothing out of the ordinary. I did have a CEL on that was checked and stated it will be fixed with an upcoming SW flash. (light is currently off)

If you shut your truck off doing a regen it will start again then next time you drive it. If you do this multiple times and it has not completed a full regen you will get the above message.

I half expected to get a CEL from that last hunting season. It took almost 3 hours for a regen to complete. Where we hunt it's 5-6 miles uphill to the horse corral and then 5-6 miles back downhill. The EGT's aren't high enough on the downhill for the active regen to work (less than 300° in the DOC). It took several trips for it to complete, but no codes.

I got lucky this year and drove slower on the uphill and both times I went into active regen I was able to get it to complete on one uphill trip.

I had driven my truck a bit around town between pulls. More than normal. Some trips to pick stuff up at Home Depot/Lowes, some runs to the local recycler, etc. So when I pulled my trailer last week, I turned the DPF gauge on to monitor it. It was just over 1/4 to start. Once I got on the interstate, it took about 15 miles to hit 0. And it stayed there for the trip. I still have never seen my truck indicate an active regen. 8300 miles.

I think it is just strange that I have driven the truck for over a year without it and now I get it.

What was the CEL?

Something caused a regen to be incomplete. What’s the DPF gauge showing?

You need to be on the DPF gauge to see the normal message. The message you got is not a normal one thats why you saw it without being on the DPF screen

It will only show that message on the DPF screen unless something is wrong then it will show the continue driving message on all screens.

I just went through this with my 2020 and 36xxx miles. Was on the highway with temperatures screen up and the truck chimed a few times, check engine light came on and the message "DPF service needed See Dealer Power may reduce". I did not stop I just manually shifted down to 5th gear and kept driving. After about 1/2 and hour the message changed to "DPF in regen Keep driving". 45 minutes later arrived to camp, light still on. Got up next morning and went out to the truck to see what I may have to do, started her up and messages were gone and CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAD SHUT ITSELF OFF, I WAS IN TOTAL DISBELIEF MYSELF. No problems since, fingers crossed.

Next time leave it in 6th. Higher egt will clean the filter more efficiently.

Correct.

I have also found that the rpms and boost need to be elevated more frequently on my 22 to help with the DPF reading. Run around in the highest gear you can, but don’t be afraid of a few higher rpm shifts once everything is warm/hot.

I’m still trying to get some concrete info on what specific parameters trigger the “…..in process continue driving” message. All too often this message and the normal “…..in progress” message get confused.

I’ve read 70% and 80% DPF loading, but luckily never experienced it.

That was my take on it too. And it would track with the intervention messages listed in the manual, however the message shown on the EVIC and the message listed in the manual are not identical. In fact, mostly all of the DPF intervention messages listed in the owners manual either do not happen or the message itself is different. IMG_4306.jpegIMG_4307.jpeg

Yes, the messages in the manual seem like holdovers from the original 6.7’s.

I also wonder how many folks with regen issues have oil change reminders at 0%, since the manual reads like that will stop all active regens.

Or how many folks are regenerating more than they should be and aren’t aware of it because they’ve adopted the “pay no attention to the DPF gauge” policy.
