PSA on 2023 model changes

I thought I would post all the findings I discovered within a week of owning my brand new shiny 2023 2500 Limited. There are significant changes Stellantis made to the 23 models, versus all past years. They are not huge, but I find them irritating, given the fact that we cannot override them as of yet.

1. Seatbelt chime override - Used to be able to follow a process to disable this. Not anymore.
2. Check Rear seat chime override - The manual says we can override this in the settings menu. Nope! No such setting available to turn it off.
3. External mirror - While these are fancy newfangled do dads, and does have improvements, Stellantis has seen fit to disable the ability to fold the mirrors in while in motion. You now have to be stopped or barely rolling in order to fold them in.
4. Speed limiter - We used to be able to use a tuner like EZLynk or AlphaOBD to override this restriction. Nope! Stellantis shut down that ability. Now we have to wait for someone to figure out the code to write that to the ECM/PCM.
5. Digital Dash Navigation view - While this does not Appy to earlier models, when you switch to seeing the Nav map on your dash, it does not allow any adjustments for distance. It's so zoomed in that you will miss your turn because you cannot see it coming if you have guidance engaged.
6. Steering wheel - We used to get a larger diameter wheel and wood accents over the top. Nope! We get a cheaper, smaller version for $15k more.
7. Hood aesthetics - You probably already know that the fancy looking intake upfront is totally faux, but the 2 top plastic vents you see on the sides are also totally faux. They are bolted on to the solid metal and made to look like they actually function to dissipate heat.
8. 4x4 decals - Past models would get a 4x4 decal on the rear fenders if you had the Offroad package. No more decals now.
9. Settings and privacy notice - Go to Settings>System>Privacy and note that the Open Source Policy is titled Open Course Policy. Does anyone even spell check the basic stuff?

Now, to be fair, I also discovered the following improvements.

1. The Digital Rearview mirror has adjustments available that we did not have in previous years. Of course the split pane setting cannot be used since Stellantis discontinued the trailer camera kit needed for this functionality.
2. The ambient light sensor that turns on the night mode has 2 settings. It will turn on the exterior lights as low light approaches but leaves the dash and control lights bright until it becomes darker. This is the one thing they did well.

If you are contemplating going to a 2023 model, you may want to know these things. If I could get my 21 year truck back, I would in a heartbeat.

The spare being plain steel has been around as long as I’ve known. It didn’t match on my 05, 18, or 22. The 22 came equipped with 20’s and AT’s, but the spare is on an 18” wheel with an HT tire.

What adjustments are available on the DRVM?

My '22 operates the lights like that

I seem to recall being surprised when my 21 had a full wheel when I dropped the spare. All my trucks have been Limited trims, so I don't know if that was the difference or mine was an anomaly.

For the DVRM, my 21 allowed brightness and vertical tilt only, the 23 allows additional options for zoom, horizontal left and right, and horizontal tilt.

Interesting, I’m not even sure the crank will hold the 20” wheels based on the design.

Nice, those are good improvements.

You could be totally correct, since it's been 2 years since I had the truck.

My 21 Limited has a 18 inch...I know that because back in fall 21 there was a recall to check the manufacture date code from the tire company (can't remember the company) which ram did not do, I had to look at the spare and give the tire company the codes on the tire. Turned out my tire was OK withour replacement.

Thanks for the info and I stand corrected.

The manual is a little unclear on exactly what it's referring to (and my 2024 Limited is on order so I can't check), but there is a note that the left and right buttons should zoom the navigation display in the cluster, does that not work?
Navigation — If Equipped Push and release the up or down arrow button until the Navigation display title is highlighted in the instrument cluster display, “Hold OK to Start Route” will display when no active route is set. “Hold OK to Cancel Route” will display when active route is set. Use the left or right arrow button to zoom in or out on the display.

Tried holding the OK button, but will go back to see if I can replicate your instructions. Thanks! And while having Nav up in the cluster, the arrows do not do anything. I am having another issue with the check lights for a trailer function as well and am told a full reset of the Uconnect system will correct it, so lets see if that fixes this issue as well.

OK, I do not get any of the messages on the display. I even set a destination and started the routing, but the dash only shows the active route and I cannot execute any commands from the steering wheel, including zoom functions.
