5th Wheel Towing - SRW vs. DRW

Just a level lift, can't stand the raked look. I'm still in my early 40s, when I hit 50 maybe I'll leave it stock l.

A level is a level, not a lift.

Even then, leveling can have negative impacts on towing.

Get an auto-level truck, it’s leveled and ready to tow heavy.

I purposely ordered this without the factory bags so I never had to worry about a service air bag light. Now I just worry about a broken trans

Yup....I wouldnt get the factory air bags again either...aftermarket is more versatile and the independent system won't cause lights....

I'm not new to this site but new to 5th wheel world. My sig is outdated as I no longer have that specific truck. Looking to buy a new 5th wheel camper and truck to pull with. I know I need/want a 3500 cummins HO but looking for opinions on SRW vs. DRW.

Specs for the 5th wheel are ... 42 foot, pin weight 2,528 lbs., GVWR 15K.

After researching I'm looking for CCLB 3500 (2020 or newer) Big Horn. Doing the VIN lookup on Ram's site that gives me about 4300 lbs. of payload plus/minus. With my family of 5 I calculate our payload usage with the pin weight we'd be in the clear by 800 - 1000lbs.

My main focus is the SRW vs. DRW. I read a lot about stability with a dually etc. Personally I don't want to daily drive a dually but that isn't a showstopper.

Our family travels quite a bit for travel sports and we'd probably only take the 5th wheel out half a dozen times a year. That tells me SRW is fine for my needs. I live in Kentucky and at some point we do want to do a couple week trip out west.

What are your thoughts on SRW vs. DRW for the above setup? Thank you.
Change out brakes on 5th wheel rv you are towing to disc brakes. Plus can change out leaf springs on the SRW to the DRW Leaf pack.

Thats just silly on both accounts. The spring packs are more than rated way past what the OEM tires can handle plus I think the DRW leafs are the same. And changing the brakes on a new trailer for no reason would be silly the drums are plenty fine for that weight

The only difference in springs is the upper overloads which would take welded on perches. Airbags are easier, cheaper, and much better.

I had a 15 k 5 th wheel with electric brakes .After a year with those I bought a disc kit and the braking difference was day and nite . Stopped in a much shorter distance . Simple to maintain no magnets or wires to deal with . Just sold it after 10 years on and never had a problem with them . Well worth every penny . Manufactures only use drum electric because they are cheaper !

The DRW has 6 leafs and SRW only has 4 leaf springs.

Correct, but the 4 that are on the SRW are the same as the lower 4 on the DRW. The only difference is the upper overloads that would need perches welded on. Airbags support more weight than the upper overloads and are adjustable, it's a better setup IMO.

Get out of here with your facts and logic.
