Front tow hook capacity?

2021 Ram Power Wagon - Can anyone provide me with what the front tow hooks are rated for in load capacity? I would assume if you needed to (double line/snatch block) the winch cable back to the tow hook then the rating would be sufficient. Thank you in advance.

I can’t answer your question.

I can comment that they are probably plenty strong in the pulling direction.

However, they’re designed to shear off in the ramming direction.

As said above they aren’t marked with a rating and as far as I know Ram doesn’t provide a listed a WLL, but:

-my personal opinion/engineering guesstimate based on their size, material, and hardware I have no doubt they are stout enough for a double line pull (12,000lbs).

-I have used them as an anchor for a double line pull with the winch a few times no problem and would continue to do it again with hesitation

-Im fairly certain these are the same tow hooks that are on a 3500 dually (14,000lb gvwr). I would be shocked if they weren’t designed to at least this GVWR.

-As noted above they are not for pushing...i believe this is so they dont transfer all the force into the frame if you are in an accident. you can see this in the design the rear bolts use a slot that is open to the front and the front bolt hole has reduced material in front so it would likely be the fuse.

-I will note the 4500/5500 tow hooks are NOT the same and are NOT compatible. They use a forged/formed piece of bar rather than cast but the bolt holes are different spacing

Thanks for adding a pic for reference.

It’s worth seeing the tiny tab that would allow the tow hook to shear off and slide back into the frame on an accident.

I’ve been winching vehicles that pulled me toward them instead of me recovering them. To anchor, you can run an anchor line to a tree behind you or you can park your nose on a tree and winch. You may end up with a broken tow hook if you tried parking the nose on a tree and winching with the stock bumper/hooks

AEV FTW on recovery points.

The stock bumpers are so thin no way I would put my bumper against a tree to anchor.
I have anchored to a tree behind, or had/acted as an anchor vehicle though.

Here I was anchor for these Jeeps as they alternated winching for a long line pull (one would winch it’s full spool length, second would then take the load, while first unspooled and removed a section of extension, rinse and repeat)

I wasn’t clear, I would’ve put the tow hook against the tree because I would’ve assumed it was strongest part of the bumper (until I saw how they mount)
