Tow Mode camera 2022 vs 2023

My truck is set up for it but you can't get the 2023 Tow Mode Camera, anywhere. It is not available to buy.

???? Of course, I didn't. It was offered under the assumption that the hardware which connects to it was available. What is your point beyond just being a troll?

You complained about paying for an option you can’t use… where did you pay for the option you can’t use? That’s trolling.

You are unable to purchase an accessory, that’s different and frustrating.

You are making no sense. I paid for the tow-mode camera prep. The tow mode camera doesn't exist to buy. This entire thread is about the tow-mode camera that can't be purchased from anywhere. What part of this is wrong or inaccurate?

What line item in your window sticker was the tow-mode camera prep?

It is part of the Tow Technology Plus Group. It is a central feature of this option and why many people, in this thread, opted for that. Not sure what your point is beyond just being a dick. It's pretty laughable actually. You are arguing semantics for no reason. Do you have an issue with everyone else who is frustrated with RAM for not having an "accessory" that goes with an option that many added for the tow camera feature?

Where are you seeing that tow mode camera prep is part of the Tow Technology Plus Group?
I can’t find it saying that anywhere on the ramtrucks build site, or any order guides going back to the one released on 8-03-22.
Is there a line item on your POC or on your window sticker that shows the prep being included and charged for? That’s pretty much all we’re wondering.

The screenshot you sent shows the tow-mode camera option. I assumed it was part of the tech tow group. When I ordered the truck, I had the choice of the surround or tow mode camera, and I picked the tow mode. How it is set up in the order system, I have no idea. I am just trying to figure out why it is an option that there is no camera to buy.

I don't know why anyone is asking me these questions, nor why it matters whether it was a specifically paid option. It comes with some options; otherwise, every truck would have it, wouldn't it?

All I know is that when I ordered the truck, it was an option I chose, and it is very frustrating I can't buy the camera to go with it.

The option (Towing Technology Plus) you paid for is the digital rear view mirror and the trailer steering. If you got those, you can use what you paid for. You currently can’t purchase an additional accessory that works with it, but the ability to use that accessory did not carry a line on the window sticker or an additional cost you paid.

Part of the digital rear view mirror is wiring for a 2nd trailer camera, it comes with every digital rear view mirror regardless of what package was paid for. The Limited Level 1 is an other example of how you could have the plug on your bumper.

If you had ordered (and Ram accepted) the specific tow-mode camera option it would have come with the 2nd camera for the DRVM.

There is a “trailer camera wiring (no camera) by Mopar” option that is different. It’s not the same camera, and actually gets horrible reviews. If you ordered that and couldn’t get the camera then you would have paid for an option you can’t currently use.

Sure it’s semantics, but it’s also part of understanding what you got, how you got it, and what you were charged extra for.

In the first screenshot, there is an image of the trailer reverse guidance feature (albeit misleading, because it’s not part of the that particular package). In that same screenshot, below the image, it says “includes: trailer reverse steering control, and digital rear view mirror with side cameras”
The next screenshot from the order guide shows Trailer Technology Group (AVS) as including the digital rear view mirror 3.0, and trailer reverse steering control.
As a layman, nothing in those two descriptions would lead me to believe that the tow mode camera prep on the truck itself is included with that package.
You received what you paid for. The truck just happens to be wired up for the tow mode camera (as a bonus in my eyes).

Here’s another (of many) examples:
All 2022 and 2023 HD Rams are prepped in the dash wiring with the connections for the VSIM module, whether the truck was ordered with the VSIM feature or not. If you decide you want to add the VSIM module later, but it’s not available to buy because of parts shortages, would you think that Ram somehow owes you something?

I understand where nchristopher1126 is coming from. I did order (and RAM accepted) my 2500 with the tow-mode camera. And while not the only reason, the DRVM with tow-mode camera was the final deciding factor in going with a Limited instead of a Laramie. I was several months into my order when I got a call and was informed I could take my truck without the camera or they would cancel my order. If I had the time, I would have cancelled and re-ordered a Laramie with the Hemi (instead of the Limited with the Diesel required for the DRVM). This is a difference of thousands of dollars and about 1,000 pounds of payload. However, by this point in time I was already committed. If I placed a new order there was a very good chance my truck wouldn't arrive in time for an upcoming once in a lifetime trip.

Like nchristopher1126 I also paid extra to get the Trailer Technology Group. My only reason for spending this $824 was to get this view (as promised in numerous promotional materials). This would be possible with the truck I had ordered. It's not possible with the truck RAM delivered.

Technically, I will agree that RAM didn't charge me for anything they didn't provide. (Even though the dealership did try to charge me the originally quoted price that included the tow-mode camera.) However, RAM definitely did not provide everything they had originally agreed to. But since it won't do any good, rather than spend (too much) time complaining about this, I've been trying to concentrate on what I can do to get the truck I originally wanted.

Since my last post in this thread, I've mounted my modified camera on my trailer and have done some testing. Given the intent of this system is to try and replicate the view from the rear view mirror, I knew I didn't want to mount this camera up at the top of my trailer. I was also afraid that mounting it low enough to be within reach of anyone walking by would be an invitation for somebody to mess with it. So I ended up going with a somewhat stealth install and hiding it behind my spare tire. I'm really happy with this install, except I had never realized how much my spare tire vibrates after hitting a bump.

I've only got about 100 miles on it so far. At this time I'm really happy with the results. It's been 100% reliable. No drop-outs and the picture quality is just as good as when the camera was mounted in the brake light. My one complaint (besides not getting the triple camera view from the Towing Technology Group) is I would like a slightly wider field of view. You can see behind you great, but not off to the sides immediately behind the trailer. Nice driving down the highway, but not so great at backing up.

For backing up I really love the 360 trailer camera. It's got a nice wide view, but is pretty much useless when driving down the highway. Here's a photo for comparison. (Ignore the color difference in the DRVM. That's an artifact of the camera. It didn't appear that color in person.)

That's an awesome workaround Cortex!

Like you, I'm having a debate with Jimmy07 on the sticky thread about 2023's and I had arrived at the same point you did. The Limited with the DVRM and tow mode camera only available on a higher spec and you had to get the tow technology group for that option. My dealer even said when he tried to build it, the only option I had was that package, even though I also ordered the Level 1 package.
