2022 Aisin Failure Tracking Sheet

too the op im already on the tracking sheet i think i got u to add me in a different forum but i found myself on there- thank you!-

just a quick update its been 5 months my truck has been sitting at the dealer. i have gotten a rental half ton through the dealership but it took 3 months of fighting to get that

spoke with my case manager yesterday (4/4/2023) some of the parts for the tsb kit have arrived however the last of the tsb parts wont arrive until august is what the case manager told me….i purchased the damn thing nov 5 2022.

so at this point im taking legal action. i do not even want the truck at this point after 5 months of sitting the brakes, batteries are going to be shot and tires will likely have nice flat spots none of which will be covered by warranty of course. and speaking of warranty thatll be close to a year gone right off the top where it sat at the dealer collecting dust.

now in the interest of speeding the process up of having them buy this back -i was hoping fca customer care would be able to assist but all ive been able to get out of the case managers is a parroting of whatever the dealer tells them. i ask to escalate the situation and the answers i get imply the case manager is the highest level of customer assistance offered by fca. and all they are REALLY able to do is expedite parts that arent on backorder…

if anyone has any contacts above case manager that i could call id really appreciate the help i do have a lawyer on it but these things move about as fast as chrysler is and id like to stop the haemorrhaging before this gets out of hand. i just wanted a damn truck i thought buying new id save some headache ..LOL
Yes I have you on there from over at Cummins Forum. It’s unbelievable how long your truck has been down now. You had commented on the sheet in slot G “738 / 1187”. I requested more info on this but you might not have seen my response comment. Did your truck fail twice? Also, I do not have your trucks build date or Aisin serial number. If you can get those at some point it would be most appreciated. Regardless of what route you end up going with the truck, please let me know where you ultimately end with it as I’d like to keep my information as accurate as possible for everyone else involved. It’s important to note how others are handling this. If you do the buyback make sure you are fully compensated and whole at the conclusion. It’s really a shame it’s taking so long to get the truck repaired. Im not sure which part they’re waiting for, but it’s likely either the snap ring or the clutch kit.

so the 738/1187 is the mileage im in canada the truck has 1187kms and google tells me in bald eagle thats about 738 miles

the dealer is keeping the truck inside the shop “as there is a real bad rash of ram thefts in this area” but i mean…how far are you going to get without a tranny in it but this makes it more difficult for me to just pop by and grab the build date and trans tag and frankly if i go by the dealership at this point i might just leave in handcuffs and yes i will definitely be sure to get compensated for everything incurred so far including;
-dealer installed upgrades(tint, bed liner, commercial registration)
-insurance
-payments till now
-original rental (i had gotten approval to be reimbursed for up to $80 a month into this by fca but i will not receive this check till this is all cleared up and i couldnt honestly afford to front the 2000/month for the rental on top of the 2000 a month between my payment and insurance.)

Understood
I will make the updates on the sheet.
Let me know how things work out. If you can get that info that’s great, but it’s not worth jail time lol

Ram Care was contacted, purely for the initial, “I made contact and voiced my complaint”. The representative I spoke to was apologetic and, quite honestly, sounded stoned out his mind. They did tell that I could have the parts expedited along with the hundreds of others doing the same thing. So that’s something to look forward too.

The tracking sheet is up and running. Please share. If you are on the list, please make sure your data is correct. If not, I can update. Also, if someone is not on there and would like to contribute I can add. Public has viewing and commenting rights only. Thanks!

Link to the sheet:

I am new. My Tranny went last week with 7,200 miles on it. 2022 3500. Built 9/22, picked up 12/22. It is at the dealer waiting on "parts". I would be happy to share my info and what I have learned.

I would be happy to add you to the spreadsheet and hear any info you have. Here’s a list of everything I collect for each truck, the more info you can provide the better.

1. Date you ordered the truck (if applicable)

2. Date of manufacture (See sticker on driver door for "date of manufacture (Build date))

3. Date you purchased the truck

4. Mileage on odometer at the time of failure

5. Serial Number of failed transmission (see blue stamped metal tag on side of the transmission. It will be something like "2H-2345"

6. Serial Number of replacement transmission (if applicable)

7. Were you towing at the time of failure?

8. Did 1st through 4th gear work?

9. Did reverse work?

10. What date did the transmission fail?

11. When was the truck returned to you after repair?

12. Did your dealer replace the transmission with a new unit or was the failed transmission repaired with parts?

So, for those of you with whom I’ve been discussing the Aisin serial numbers: I have to apologize, as your theories were correct regarding how the numbering system worked. I had mistakenly typed a “3” instead of a “2” at the beginning of one of the transmission serial numbers on the tracking spreadsheet. That was throwing off what we thought might be how Aisin used their serial numbers. Indeed your hypothesis was correct. Pretty certain the Aisin serial numbers are determined as follows:

Example: “2H-1234”

First character is the last digit of year of manufacture
So in the example above the “2” would be “2022”

Second character is the month of manufacture
So in the example above “H” would be “August”

The last four characters are (I’m assuming) the sequence number. I’m still sorting that out.

I’ve cross checked this theory against multiple trucks on the tracking sheet and it worked for every one.

I appreciate those of you who have been helping to figure all of this out. The goal here continues: Find out as much about this issue as possible in the hopes of assisting others to understand this problem, as well as help others avoid dangerous situations if possible.

Any update on the validity of the sequence number? Looking at the data it looks like it’s number built per month, which is good because that puts the failure rate quite low. If they average 4K a month and it was a 10 month issue and you are aware of 1/5 of them that’s under 2%, not great but nothing to lose sleep over.

Interesting how some truck have transmissions that were still hot from casting and some sit for a bit. I wonder if the transmission has to be on hand to get scheduled, which would match my 2D serial number with my 4/13/22 scheduled date. The truck wasn’t built until 5/27. 9.5K miles and no issues.

What's your sequence number? I also have a 2D-4189 trans at 5500 miles, no problems yet. Hopefully April was a good month, lol. My truck was built on May 14th

What was your scheduled date? Build date? Sequence number?

I’ve not had much of a chance to really work the sequence numbers over. I’ve been meaning to put them on an independent sheet and align them chronologically to “see” what they can tell me about production numbers and potential for failure but I haven’t had the time. This time of year gets pretty busy with the hay making and farming season gear up. I’ve added quite a few new trucks on the sheet recently. Not surprisingly more from September and October of 22. There’s something about those two months in particular that are bringing them to the forefront of this issue.

My truck: 22 3500 DRW HO

Order Received: 7-29-21
D1: 9-14-21
Built: 10-9-21
KZ: 10-29-21
KZ-X: 11-29-21
Truck sequence number: 138060
Transmission serial: 1i-1866 (built September 21) so my transmission seems like it may have sat around for a little bit before hitting the line.

Currently at just shy of 28k and no issue so far

My build date was 3/11/22 (sequence 191832) and my serial # is 2B-4243. Only 4K miles and no failure so far. Keeping my fingers crossed.

2D-1001.

Your truck was built before mine, but a much higher trans sequence number.

1002.

Since your truck was scheduled to be built earlier it's possible that your trans was reserved for your truck and just sat on a rack until the truck was built. Mine was built on time according to the date given when it went D1 so I assume that's why I got a later serial trans.
Or there is no rhyme or reason and the sequence numbers get mixed up. Who knows

Yes, I had a long time between D1 and built.

My dad has a 22 with a D1 date of 6May and a build date of 13June. I need to look at his trans for a serial number, but it’s 6 hours away.

This week I opened a case with RAM Customer Care concerning my broken transmission. The next day an incident manager was assigned and called me to touch base. She was very pleasant and I thought this is progress. Today, I was going to call my incident manager for an update, surprise the phone number that the RAM Customer Care sent was incomplete. The phone number provided has 9 digits. Does anyone have the complete phone number for Chrysler West Case Management?

Looking for updates from you. You are currently still marked as “out of service” on my spreadsheet. If you have an update, or if I’m missing some of your info from the sheet, I would appreciate an update on that also.
I don't have any other good news to report. I've called and emailed Ram Cares a number of times with nothing other than we'll expediate the parts. I plan on hitting them up again on Monday but they said the next update from them would be 4/13. They did say my parts should be at the dealer between 4/13 and 4/26. Not inspiring and not confidence building. If I hit the 30 days out of service, I will most likely be pursuing a lemon law / replacement truck. Getting a 23 with the same options at least gets me a year newer truck.
