New recall 11/10/2022 for the 68RFE ** UPDATED INFO IN 1ST POST **

Hmmm, looks a lot like this guy, ATI Replacement Locking Transmission Dipstick Handles 973081

That's what I was thinking. Why even have a dipstick on it if it serves no purpose. I realize they had to come up with a quick fix and they found a large enough part source that "fixed" the problem, but ultimately created a customer dissatisfaction situation. But a bunch of cranky owners scratching our collective heads is better than burning trucks on the side of the road.

Sad engineering, but this is the environment we are in. Don't fix....patch.

At some point they will go dipstick-less on everything like other manufacturers.

I've seen several complaints about the non-functioning dipstick show up on the nhtsa web page for the HD ram pickups after people had recall done... Seems like they want you to only take it to the dealership for service now, which is complete garbage.

Tried scheduling to get the dipstick recall done at the dealer today and told them I want the old dipstick back to check levels and was told sorry you can't as we need to send it back to Ram. Decided to pass on the recall for now until I get the Suncoast dipstick.

Just bring the truck in without the dipstick then just say you lost it. They cant say no to the recall for a missing dipstick

They're lying....just had mine done yesterday and they had no problem giving the original back....the recall doesn't state they need to keep it....

It actually does it states they need to keep one for servicing the 68rfe and destroy the rest not send it back

My dealer said it'd be no problem to give me the OEM dipstick after the recall was done. If I get it done at all.

My 19’ had the recall done as the dipstick kept blowing out. After the recall, it still blew out. So I put a bungee cord on it. Had the transmission rebuilt at a transmission shop and the dipstick stays in place. Rebuilt at 325,000 miles.

If you're like me and would rather not go to the dealer yet, this locking dipstick fits. It's too short, but it locks. $15
Dorman 917-301

It's pricer, but just get the Suncoast dipstick I'm running. It still actually works to check the fluid level and the twisty bit at the end does line up with the cold hashes after a 2nd check sans beer lol.

I'm holding off on getting my recall done until the DPF sensor recall is out and ready for mine as well. Seeing as how the C&C trucks are starting to get theirs for the missing sensor and '23 trucks have the sensor it's only a matter of time. I did also install my PPE deep pan, a fresh sump filter, the PPE extended thread on filter, and the PPE TBV delete. Monitoring temps now I rarely peak over 155, but it still warms up just fine even in cold weather (by south texas standards).

As some of you have seen in other threads, we in this area are stuck with one franchise dealer only unless we travel many hours for service. I called a week+ ago to try and schedule this recall and the tailgate recall and as usual had to leave a message. Nobody returned the call. Called again today and spoke to the phone operator who told me that the service advisor I originally used for some warranty work no longer worked for them. She said she would transfer me to my "new" service advisor and gave me his name. But then she said to ignore the fact that the voicemail I would get when she transferred me had someone else's name on it because that person also no longer worked there. She transferred me and of course nobody answered AND the voicemail had yet a 3rd name, not either of the two she had given me. I left another message but am not optimistic that I will get a call back. When you are able to actually get through to someone at this dealership, the wait for even the simplest appointment is always months because they are only about 50% staffed with service techs. I am so jealous of you all that are getting service appts. in a reasonable manner. I am not worried that my truck is about to catch fire, but it is coming up on oil and filter change and I would like to get it all done at one time to avoid having to string out several appointments over many months.

Sorry, just a rant wishing I had thought of service after the sale when I bought. I love my truck but live in fear of having to interact with this dealer! Others here have the same issue and I have been warned not to complain as that makes things worse for you.

How much modification does the suncoast dipstick need to accurately read fluid levels? I wish I had seen this thread before I took my truck in for the recall, I'm filing with my AG's office today, Stellantis owes me a new functional locking dipstick!

Cry and complain all you want you will not get anything from RAM the suncoast stick needs no modifications

Recently noticed this recall on my dashboard. Checked the dipstick in my ‘21; which was covered in smoke sit and upon initial inspection smelled burnt and left black residue on the shop rag. Coincidently, my transmission just lost reverse. Not sure what to do, my service advisor said Chrysler would not warrant it because she’s tuned & deleted.

Since I see a rebuilt (or exchange) upgraded trans in your future, even that is unlikely to warrant the recall.

Make sure they install a proper functional vent.

Sounds like you smoked the trans thats not a warranty defect, were you driving it hard or was it getting hot when you lost reverse?
