2022 Premature Aisin Failures

Just happened to my truck. I will post my build info tomorrow. Is there somewhere I could see the TSB if I don't have FB?
Yes, I have a tracking sheet post in powertrain for the Aisin failures. The TSB that was shared with me is posted in that same thread.

Hey everyone,

If you're experiencing an issue with your 2022 Aisin and decide to take it into your local dealer for assistance, please reach out! We'd be happy to get you some assistance with it. Additionally, you can bring TSB #21-002-23 to your dealer as this can help them diagnose the issue.

Thank you. My 2022 Ram 3500 w/Aisin has been at my local dealership for 30 days with this same transmission issue being described. My truck had 1400 miles.
This morning they told me there was no TSB (after I asked) and service manager said it would be easier to work through the problem if there was one (?) because that would mean the problems been figured out and they just have to complete the fix. Service manager said that instead he has to email back & forth with somebody at service support who requests for information to be uploaded to truck, then downloaded from truck, then he has to wait for them to reply with next steps. Are all dealerships aware of this bulletin? Any recommendations from RamCares? Should my local dealership be aware of this TSB? Am I responsible for showing this to him? Thank you!

Hey there,

You can take TSB 21-002-23 to your dealer as this may assist them in diagnosing your vehicle!

I have a case number now. Today is day 41 since the trans broke and truck was towed to dealership.

Service rep told me last week to contact Ram as he has no control over getting repair parts...

Interesting because RamCares told me to get the part numbers from my dealer so RamCares could expedite parts shipping. I went to my dealer and asked for the part numbers on all parts that were backordered and he told me that RamCares can't make it happen any faster and that he already has them designated as VOR status (priority status). I didn't realize when I bought my pickup that it came with a new job of corresponding between RamCares and service manager (?)...
They should rip the parts out of another new truck on the lot, to fix a truck that is already sold, so that proven customer can get back on the road and back to work...just sayin'

Yeah but the sad part is, you’re not guaranteed those parts won’t fail. That’s the worst part about all of this. Unless the transmission is updated to address the issue, or the parts ordered are confirmed not to be defective, or we are given some clarification from Ram as to which trucks are affected, this is all a roll of the dice.

Also interesting how Ram makes the customer do the leg work instead of just doing it themselves…. Great customer service

You can’t imagine the variation in the response that this failure is generating. After talking to nearly 65 people, all of whom are going through the repair ordeal, I can tell you that there has been very little consistency as to how each is handled. Everything from extreme urgency and a truck returned in two weeks, to a service manager telling the customer “you can find anything you want on the internet” when they had to print the TSB out and hand it to them in order to get anywhere.

Add me to the list of failures, my 22 Ram 3500 HO AISIN lost all forward gears @2290 miles .

In downtown Dallas Traffic towing my Jeep, thankfully I was not towing my Valor . Was able to use 4 low to get off hwy but it was rough going..

Will do. Can you PM me? I’m in front of my laptop right now

So TSB and owner experience says 5th and 6th is still available. Sounds like you used 4-Lo and 5-6 to get out of the danger zone?

That is correct. But it was slow going 32 mph but thankfully we got off busy hwy .

That’s better than losing all forward gears like you said. Not great, but better.

It did in high range , in low to get a gear it made some pretty awful bangs and clunks, once in gear I had to keep it loaded with both feet power brake or it would, what I assumed was a down shift and no gears . Definitely not a pleasant experience at all . As I was getting off exit to a safe spot it did finally loose all forward gears , when the wrecker picked it up, I only had reverse.

The trans doesn’t care if you are in low or high range, it still has 5th and 6th but they are too high of gearing to get moving.

If you had lost all forward gears it wouldn’t have moved forward in low range.

I’ve talked to several people on the spreadsheet who were able to move the truck forward, just very slowly and with very low power. When the K1 snap ring fails, 1st through 4th are no longer available. 5th and 6th are not affected. So if they are able to drive forward it is with 5th. Some of the failures, the truck will not move forward at all, some will move in 5th but at low power and speed. From what I have gathered it depends on how and when the snap ring fails. Some of the low speed instances, where people were pulling out after being stopped, or changing directions, the snap ring seems to have just fallen out of the place. If they decided not to drive it and have it towed, the internal damage is less and there is little to no debris found in the pan during inspection and diagnosis. The ones that chose to drive it, or had to given their situations, seem far more likely to cause more damage. Those are the ones who seem to be getting the additional components at the time of replacement. Usually it’s the trans cooler, lines, etc.

The TSB instructs the techs to repair the internals but that doesn’t seem to be happening very often, or if at all. I have a few people who are waiting on the “TSB parts kit” but it seems to be heavily backordered. All of the completed repairs I’ve had reported to me were full transmission replacements.

This TSB parts kit, do we have any idea what all it contains? Assuming at least a snap ring but also wondering if the hard part that the snap ring snaps into is also replaced? I'm sure there are many other gaskets, seals, etc., just wondering about the actual failed parts themselves and just what was involved, specifically.

These are the parts in the kit. I would assume any other parts they find damaged would be ordered during the disassembly and diagnostics. The TSB goes step by step on how to do this. 6F1C6950-9AC9-4601-9F36-60A5E33C1851.jpeg

I understand that but it did eventually loose all forward gears . Getting it to find 5-6 gear means lots of throttle and when it hits it hits hard, I did in fact loose all forward gears even in low , reverse would hit super hard to engage, so tomato tamato is F’ed either way. You can play the verbiage however .
