Bakflip and Bedrug installed

As a side note, I had the Bakbox on my pervious truck and didn’t like it at all. It wouldn't hold much nor support much weight.
That's exactly why i don't want it, looks like cheap junk for what i would use it for. Tools an toolboxs

Just posted this on another forum, if you want the full right up go to wheres rich.. Just placed my bakflip mx4 order with auto anything. There on special until Thursday an they gave me sn extra 43 off of that. Out the door tax sh for 910 on an 8 ft bed.

That looks really good Bob, and you will be able to use your entire bed with that setup for loads. Do you ever plan on using a fifth wheel or goose neck setup, or just bumper pull anything in the future?
Plan on buying a fifth wheel for my retirement home.

Jump all in, we full time for 3yrs now. Cant put a price on freedom
Well...I'm 55 years old...I wanna pay off my truck first...then I'll get the 5th wheel and by the time I pay that off..I should be able to retire and I'll have my house and wheels paid for. I really wanna get a toy hauler so I have a garage area for tools and stuff. I probably won't move it around too much....I'll stay here in the desert southwest close to where I live now....not sure whether to get a piece of land or park in RV park.

Sold both cars on Craig's list over a weekend for full blue book an there was a bidding war on our house when we listed it. All of our belongings went to 1 couple who came over to buy a table an we ended up pricing 3 truck loads of stuff they took an the rest went to family till we had nothing but memories. You'd be surprised how much you can live with out, don't wait to long. Now back on point. Can't wait to get my Bak flip, hope is worth the money

I luv my Bakflip..it's my second one!

yeah...I got the MX4 and probably about an inch and a quarter
I'm excited about it but I'm only going to have 3/4" clearance between tool box an cover. The bak technicians told me it would come down .75-1" into bed. Now let me ask you, is that inch an a quarter the cover or the cross beams were hardware goes because my toolbox will be able to fit between panel cross pieces

you should be ok then.....the cover does not intrude into the bed much at all

Ohhhh that's awesome news, thanks bobo, you really just gave me some piece of mind. My tool box is 20" wide and the bak tech said the panels are approximately 24 ", so it should fit between the bars then. I'm thinking between that first 8" panel an 24" panel, then when bak is leaned against cab the tool box lid should open fully. :)

I want my bak flip and I want it nowwwwwwww!!!!! Was supposed to ship out on Wednesday but with the huge discount this weak, its got the shipping dept backed up. Would of been nice to of been able to put that on this wkd. But hey, i saved $ 300 , so i guess i shouldn't complain. Now I got to start looking for some line x conditioner so when i get the cover on, ill condition the bed and then it should last for a long time not baking in the sun

We'll I'm a bit bummed out. Auto anything emailed me and said because of the huge sale on the bakflips last wk that my original ship date of April 28-30 has now been pushed to around may 11th per bak inc due to so many orders at once. Hopefully they come through with out any further delays

Rich,

I think you may have caught a break. You may want to rethink the Bakflip. If you search it on this forum you’ll find a lot of info. I pasted a link to a previous thread where covers are discussed. About halfway down is my experience and there’s pics that show what happened to me. Everyone has a different perspective and I hope it works out for you but my experience with the bakflip G2 is they leak and allow water to seep in under the seals causing warping. I went through 4 of them ...yes, a total of 4. Their customer service is tremendous, they replaced it 3x. The 4th cover was still on the truck and warped when I traded it. It was a huge disappointment because they had a lot of “buzz” online when I bought and they look really nice. Each time I replaced it thinking ok this time will work and then it failed. Customer service representative “Dorene” and I were on a first name basis, she’s about as nice a lady as you will ever talk to.

Good luck and I hope it works. I would just say watch it over time to see if it gets heavier due to water intrusion and warps.

Thanks four the advice. I've got the mx4 on order wich is supposed to be there best model. Now, i don't know if its any better or not than the G2 as far as the issues you have had. Your definitely right on there service dept, they have been phenominal so far. They said they would even send me a pre paid return shipping label if for any reason I'm not satisfied. I'm not so concerned if its not 100% leak proof as i won't be storing things out of the main tool box. I mainly just want it for the look and to lock my $1500 fiver hitch in from would be on lookers. Now the thought of warping does concern me. How long did that take to occur?

Rich,
I can’t give you a specific time frame on when it occurs it’s one of those things you just happen to notice one day. I went through 4 covers over a 2 year, 2 month time frame. I bought the original cover on Amazon and brought up my experience with the local truck shop guys when I was looking for a cover for my 2019 truck. They sell them but advise against it because they leak and warp. In fact they’re the ones who told me what caused the warping. I previously thought Bak was just using a bad batch of aluminum or reflection from one of our windows super heating the metal and distorting it. They said the water leaks in and cant go anywhere, the cover becomes heavy over time and it sags a little from the weight causing the warping. They did say the MX4 was an improvement over the G2 so I hope you have good service out of yours. I’m anxious to see the pics of how it looks on your truck. I’m living vicariously through you accessorizing yours !!

Also if you have a 5th wheel hitch in your bed you will find that it blocks your view out of the back window when you fold it up. A solid roll up cover is best in my opinion if you’re only trying to keep your hitch protected. There’s a video link in the thread I sent you that compares soft roll ups and hard tri-fold covers. I’m not wedded to a specific brand, just a fan of LoPro based on previous experience with other trucks but there are other good ones out there too. There is no real security value in a hard cover, a pry bar at the junction between the cover and corner of tailgate will open it right up. It is a deterrent, making it more challenging to gain entry but if someone is determined to get in they will. If you have something valuable in the bed take it inside over night. My goal is to keep things dry and out of the weather. The roll up is a better choice for me at accomplishing that and at half the price.

Good luck and let me know what you end up going with.

I just don't want to let others see I have a brand new shiny fiver hitch in the back, yes I do have it locked in but when it's covered, they don't know what they don't know,,lol. I figured when its folded up that it would probably make it harder to back into pin box as it would create a blind spot per say. I will also have a tool box underneath towards the front between 8 " panel and first 24" panel and clearance is going to come down to the mm. I like the mx4 because it's not the shiny exterior finish but the mat black wich is what i prefer. So are you saying that if at all possible, that if i don't need the extra millimeters to clear my tool box, to not use the foam cushion between bed rail and mx4 because that's what hold the moisture in And possibly cause warping?

Rich, I’m not sure about clearance on the tool box. There’s 2 separate issues, leaking into the bed and water intrusion into the panels. The leaking occurs at the seams and joints. The water gets under the rubber strips at the aluminum panel seams. I pasted a YouTube video below that demonstrates some of the issues. The guy is a little over the top but what he shows and highlights is what I experienced.

I had the Bakflip FiberMax on my last truck for about three years. No warping. Some leaking by the tailgate but not enough to bother me. Overall I was pleased with it. On my 2019, I got the MX4 which I‘ve had for seven months. Again I’m pleased with it so far. I like that I can close the tailgate with the Bakflip closed.
