RamCares Cp4 service solution updates - (Y78) CP4 recall issued by FCA - 2020 Parts Available May 10

Just got a call from my Service Advisor regarding the pump recall. He has ordered the kit which includes the pump and some wiring. He didn’t mention adapters, hoses, or anything else that is required to install the pump. I think he was just trying to highlight the fact that what was being ordered for my truck didn’t include fuel lines, injectors, filters, etc. He said that he ordered my kit based on what the Mothership told him. If the truck is driven in, vs towed in, then you order the basic kit that I mentioned before. So much for checking the screen in the fuel pump regulator for metal contamination.

they usually just fail immediately. not surprised that if the truck is in running condition, they'll just order the pump.

Probably not part of the tech pub they are following. "Unauthorized work" is my guess. If they don't look I want the old part to tear apart in my garage. If nothing else just a science project.

Attached is a pic I found on the web of a CP4 and CP3. Looks to me remove a few bolts and it's unsealed. May take a puller to remove the housing cover though.

Good luck with that. I expect all those pumps are going back to Cummins/Bosch.

OK, I updated the 1st post on what I think are all the currently active threads regarding this pump issue with the details. letters, images, parts lists.

I suggest everyone look at post #1 in any thread before commenting on what you're getting.

If the truck is running, they will check the Fuel Quantity Solenoid (FQS) when they begin the repair work.

If they find debris, they'll contact STAR for authorization to order the additional parts and move into failure mode TSB.

Thanks for the clarification
When you say FQS you’re referring to the?

“ Genuine Bosch Fuel Metering Unit, Also Known As Fuel Pressure Regulator, Fuel Control Actuator “

I guess the 2019‘s are cleared for parts mine goes in May 30th for the recall to be performed

Edit:

it looks like im the first in my region as i called the 3 local dealers one is so small they dont have a diesel tech and one refused to check parts demanding they know its not out yet, the last dealer had to do a search to check if they were out yet so I'm assuming that makes me first in line…
I forget, did you try early on like me and get denied? If so now you talked to the dealer and they said good to go? If so I’ll try calling again tomorroaw

So I just checked my email and there it was, an email from my dealer telling me the parts for the recall have arrived and to call to make the appointment! Nice! Be doing that first thing in the AM.

All right well still no good news here, maybe you guys are getting it first for whatever reason confirmed 2019 still not available in the lower 48

Thats odd because all our parts come out of the US….

Well I just got off the phone with another dealer and they've got me scheduled for Monday to do the preliminary inspection. I wasn't going to use this dealership as their sales manager is a jerk. But from a service standpoint, they've been the most helpful yet. The service writer said my repairs should be complete within a couple of weeks. I don't understand how 3 dealerships within a 25 mile radius can be so different. I'm not holding my breath on this one.

If, like my dealership, I got the "available" info before my Service Manager. When I called him, he had to call to get the info. So, when you called those three dealerships they probably didn't know, so they wing it with any response they think will fit. For some reason they hate to say, "I don't know, let me find out"

The USA has the 2019 parts but not the software, that is different from the 2020 available software.
Why would the software differ? The only software difference for the ECU (that I'm aware of anyway) relates to the fact that there are two CP4s. Since the trucks are getting identical pumps I'm at a loss at what is different.
