this is kind of a spin off of my thread on the "
Who Got The " Important Emissions Recall "
The recall is coded VB6.
If you received a letter form FCA about this recall and have been to your dealer to have this done, please post here the results of the " flash/adjustment " tweek, whatever.

Thanks

Here is my story, abridged version.

  • In August 2019, I bought a 3500 HO Diesel. The Aisin did not shift satisfactorily from the day I drove it off the lot.
  • In October of 2019, the dealer updated the air suspension control module (SCM) from version 68354198AK to version AL per RRT 19-057. I didn't notice any difference in the suspension.
  • In December of 2019, the dealer updated the transmission control module (TCM) from version 68288452AK to version AL per TSB 21-041-19. I noticed an improvement in the Aisin shift schedule.
  • In January of 2020, the dealer updated the transmission control module (TCM) from version 68288452AL to version 68475153AD per TSB 21-001-20. I noticed an improvement in the Aisin shift schedule.
  • In February of 2020, the dealer updated the power control module (PCM) from version 52401932AF to 52401932AG per TSB 18-052-19. After this update, my truck started idling really rough when cold.
  • In March of 2020, the dealer updated the power control module (PCM) from version 52401932AG to 52401932AH per recall VB6. After this update, my truck idles normally when cold.
After all of these updates, including VB6, the truck drives like a dream. I am scared to install any more updates.

How can I find out if my truck has this TSB/recall installed? My new truck I picked up 3-10-20 idles very rough when cold.

I've seen a post that it's normal due to the electrical draw, but I would think with dual 220A alternators and 6.7L of raw unbridled CTD power to drive them, this should not be the case.

I received a letter in the mail a few days ago that said I needed to take my truck in for recall "VB6." However, the Mopar recall check web site did not indicate my truck was part of the recall. Other people are also reporting the recall site says their truck does not need an update even though they received a recall letter. Overall, the recall web site seems to be unreliable.

My dealership agreed to check the PCM version to determine if I needed the update for VB6. They determined I did need the update, and I got the truck back a few hours later.

I suggest asking your dealer to check the PCM version. If it is version 52401932AG or lower, they should update it to 52401932AH.

A decent scan tool (Innova 3100 series etc) should display the PCM S/W version. Otherwise the dealer can verify same.

The post you refer was not intended to imply that engines were idling roughly per se. The fueling/defueling to maintain engine speed during the periods when the grid/cabin heaters are being powered on/off, especially with one alternator, has been interpreted bu others as a rough idle. When it's really cold out and the coolant is warmed via the block heater, the engine will idle at about 650 for the first two min. The engine may chug a couple or three times for the first min and every time the grids power on. I don't consider that "rough" running, just a very cold induction system trying to get warm. With dual alts, these issues should, I think, be much less noticeable. If applicable to the truck, I suspect you may benefit from this VB6 update.

I'd love to get my truck in.. my dealer says a month before that happens. Honestly, it's running fine so I'm really not worried about it.

Thanks.

I'm comparing it to my 04.5 5.9L which, though it runs "different" when really cold, like a chug-chug-chug, otherwise runs like a well oiled Singer. The new truck is nothing like that, it is a rough stumbly idle that is seen/felt/heard in the cab like a gasser with a misfire or faulty cylinder coil pack.

A month? Dat's nuts! I hear ya, though... I've got no issues with the way the engine and the tranny have been operating since I picked her up last Jun. Yep, the Aisin can be quirky in the lower cogs but it's really infrequent and quite manageable once you get to know it.

I received the recall letter with my VIN in the top left corner. Scheduled an appointment with the service department and they performed the PCM flash. When I picked it up, the service manager said he was a little perplexed as to why my truck needed it because he said it was for trucks with California emission requirements (I'm in Indiana). o_O

Nonetheless, the truck runs great as it always has since I bought it.

Hey, Brutal. You can check for any open recalls or TSBs by visiting https://www.mopar.com/en-us/my-vehicle/recalls/search.html.

When I looked it didn't show up as a recall, even though it is clearly labeled as one, I had to scroll down to campaigns, and it was there.

Thanks, but frankly it's an empty gesture to tell me to check a recall site that's commonly known. I also know how to find TSB's.

That site will tell me NOTHING about what flash level may have been installed in the new truck I just picked up 3-10-20 or what work has been done.

If you bothered enough to respond, you should have taken the time to actually read my posts and understood what it is I'm asking.

Wondering since as far as I know, diesels are sold as 50 state compliant, maybe there is some federal requirement for that? Would also guess the update has other stuff in it that they are not talking about.

I apologize for my confusion, brutal. From your message, it seemed you wanted to know if the recall/TSB had already been installed, which the website provided would be able to tell you. However, as I see that was not the information you were requesting, I apologize. Regarding the flash level you mentioned, unfortunately, I do not have that information and recommend speaking with your servicing dealer.

Thanks,

The web site does not show any recall installed or required. Therein lies my somewhat unfounded animosity towards your response.

Apologies, but life is a mess for everyone right now and I was lashing out.

You need to stop being the big D. No one here wants to hear your nasty comments and rude remarks to the Ram Care people.

It may be that the recall is not associated to your VIN, brutal? But I would be happy to check on my end as well. Send me a private message that includes your VIN and I can take a look.

I apologized and that was the only time I said anything to them. You're thinking of countless other members talking smack.

So who's the big D?

Now my entire state is in a lock down and not permitting intrastate movement that is not essential. I'll just wait until this corana thing blows over and schedule it then.
