That sounds amazing! You collecting honey to sell or private use?
Mom's boyfriend's family had a huge bee honey farm up in Illinois. I remember as a young kid, him coming back after visiting the farm with big 5 gal buckets of honey comb. I'd grab a chunk and chew it like candy, spitting out a big hunk of wax when I was done.
Oh man you're one of those lucky guys that lives in a climate where citrus and avocados do well! I'd love to grow fresh citrus but western WA wouldn't allow. I hear fresh off the tree lemons actually taste good straight? Is that true?Sounds like fun.
I can't have any as the wife is allergic.
All I have is a lemon tree that's finally producing almost year round. Lemons as big as a grapefruit.
Got a Avocado tree that my buddy grew from a seed and I traded my loquat tree for it. It's finally blooming this year.
My flowerbed blooms almost year round. It covers 2 sides of the house as I live on a corner.
Sounds like paradise other than it costing so much (california in general...)Yep. We didn't get the typical meyers lemons as the wife doesn't like them. Not sure what kind it is, but they are big and juicy with minimal seeds. We squeeze them right into our glass of ice water.
Just pulling them off the tree you can smell them. Not too tart, not to sweet.
Yea, I'm 5 miles from the coast here in almost central Cali, about half way between Malibu and Santa Barbara. Weather is 70 year around, plus or minus 10 for the most part. But it cost to live here.
Looking at moving up to north of Reno, Nv when I retire again in a few years.
That’s real awesome. May I ask where you got the hive and colony from?My wife and I are starting a new foray into bee keeping tonight! Got the hive all set up and painted (Brie spent a lot of time on that fancy paint job lol) and a colony of bees to put in. Excited to start!
Any other bee keepers out there?

That’s great. My daughters been mentioning beekeeping the last couple of months, but honesty I’m scared of the little buggers. I see you have them right next to your house so that can’t be too much trouble.A local bee-keeping store here in town

Really nice people. Lots of information as well. They sold us a kit which came with the hive, tools, bees, and protective gear. We bought some books as well because we had about two months from when we bought the kit to when the bees were ready for pickup from the local fairgrounds.

No bees here, but wife and the kids picked up a new hobby lately too. View attachment 35943
We watch a PBS show about a central TX bee company. Saw this cool hive on there https://www.honeyflow.com/
Yeah. My kids have been raising chickens, ducks, and turkeys. Here’s some ducks that hatches a couple days ago.No bees here, but wife and the kids picked up a new hobby lately too. View attachment 35943

My wife loves them for baking. If you like a heavy yoke to dip your toast in then yes. They don’t lay an egg every day like a chicken rather in clutches of a dozen or so. Then they shut down. Sometimes for months. I’d say over all it’s cheaper and less hassle to just buy eggs at the store, but it’s been good for the kids. Some hard life lessons and a some good experiences.Do duck eggs taste good?
Absolutely a good experience for kids! I've been under the impression for a while now that many people I know (adults....) think their meat and animal products just grow in the grocery store packages...My wife loves them for baking.
