2022 Ram HD Builds and orders - Post and discuss your TRUCK order here! ** NEW USERS READ POST #1 **

Anyone not been happy with the payload of their 2500 Cummins? That’s been another factor weighing on my mind
I looked at upgrading my 2020 1/2 ton to a 3/4. Payload went from 1401 to 1900*/-. I don't want to trade again or worry about not enough truck so I went with my 1 ton. My payload on the door is 3791 w towing 25,101. I'm not concerned about what I'm towing even in the Rockies.

KZT is the last train, KZU is on the truck, KZX is delivered.
Speaking of KZ would anyone be able to help give me an idea of which KZ status my truck is in? Dealership hasn’t been much help other than the generic Ram delivery window of 2/21-3/7. Thanks!

Would help if I included the VIN 3C63R3EL1NG234827

I ordered a hemi that is apparently not in any hurry to get here if it shows up at all but I’ve got access to plenty of 2500 Cummins locally. Just not sure if it would be worth getting the 2500 Cummins now or waiting on my order

Just hop on the highway once a week for nice cruise.
is it as simple as that? Only reason I am still waiting to put an order in is, still waffling on diesel or hemi because I live in WA state and EPA regs are ironfist here. Some weeks I have nothing but grocery driving to do, others I need to haul in and out to the country for inlaws, lumbers/compact tractors/etc

highway cruise once a week truly enough for this?

A 5 mile commute each way, 5 days a week doesnt seem like enough to plug the dpf. A highway blast should clear it out.
The bigger issue is never getting the engine / oil up to temp. Not the end of the world, but I’d change the oil more frequently as you wont cook off any condensation in the oil.

I am in the exact situation, and ordered the cummins.

I work on first hand knowledge so I appreciate everyone who weighs in on this forum. I really am torn on this truck decision because my hemi is coming by boat and I’m not very confident in my dealer. I have access to a few 2500 Cummins trucks one of which being the diesel equivalent to my order. I’m very torn on this decision because I could have the diesel truck in the blink of an eye but I ordered my hemi the exact way I want it for a reason. The main question , is it worth it to get the Cummins 2500 for the satisfaction of buy it now. Or is ot worth waiting on my hemi. I have a short work commute mon-fri and I work on the farm after work and on weekends hauling hay and feed. I pull a 7500lb camper for getaways with the family and we want to have the freedom to hit the mountains or the beach or go on a long haul from SC to NM if we want. I stay local for the most part and I work in a factory for a living so I’m not a rich man. Any input is more than appreciated. Y’all help me figure out what to do. My hemi order is 58k the diesel equivalent truck is 75k and the other diesel trucks are all about 65k.

When I had my ECO diesel ... most of the time it was just short hops to work and around town. When the regenerate came on, I hopped on a little highway up the street, took a ride up one side and back down... it was done.. Don't let that process scare ya, it's no big deal. I think the benefits of a diesel outweight the gasser easily. Power, performance, fuel mileage, maintenance, the kewl factor :) ... no coils to go bad, no spark plugs to change ..... just oil change and filters ..... and drive it!!!

As long as the cummins has the payload rating that you need, i’d go with it.

You posted while I was typing, so I will add one more point, now that I see what you will be towing. My son picked up a beautifully GMC Denali last year to haul his new 24ft enclosed race car trailer. I went out to Ohio and picked it up for him with my 02 Ram diesel dually, drove the 9 hrs back like it wasn't there. Now his 2500 short bed with the big 6.2L gasser hooks up to it for the 1st time, goes to the drag strip, about 70 miles away highway, with some substantial hills and mountains .... he hated it. He was so disappointed, he just traded it in for a brandy new diesel GMC ... see, he's driven my old Ram diesel many times pulling my 32ft race car trailer, the trailer weighing in somewhere around 12,000lbs ... that's when you find out the difference! Until you actually have the opportunity to pull with a diesel, you'll never know.

That’s the problem. I have towed with a diesel and I have towed with a gasser. Loved both but my diesel kept ending up in the shop with emissions issues and it scared me back to gas. If I found a hemi on the lot tomorrow I would but it because it feels safer to me. But I also need the truck before June and from what I’m hearing trucks shipped by boat are not moving fast. Not to mention my truck still hasn’t been built (12-30 order)

Well today was the day. New 3500 is home from Mark Dodge. Flew in this morning and made the 322 mile trip home! Great people to work with. Added the 50 gallon tank, have some serious range! On paper truck averaged 19.25 mpg on the trip home.

I personally think they have ruined the diesels with the emissions and the manufacturers haven't figured out how to make them work... Yet. They will but it will take time just like when emissions were put on gas cars.

I'm hoping that someone can help me find some info on my 2022 Power Wagon order status, or possibly point me in the right direction. I ordered it on 12/20/21 and all I've received is the Vin.

I'm aware of the letter code associated with the build process. I've also contacted customer care and my dealership, but haven't gotten much info. Thanks

I agree. I like the familiarity of gas engines but I like the tq of diesel.

I would suggest asking brv10. I was in the same scenario and he has been the only info I’ve gotten. But I will warn you… he may tell you that your truck will ship by boat and kill all your hopes and dreams lol

That’s what I’m worried about. All the Cummins trucks a can get are 2500 and the payload suffers
3500 is not much more expensive than 2500 and it comes standard with Limited Slip where you have to add as an option on 2500. Main difference is leaf springs on 3500 vs coil springs on 2500. I jumped from a 2015 2500 to a 2022 3500 and love the 3500.
