2019 cummins awful noise on cold start (video attached)

Or just do what my wife does.... remote start it and if it’s still running when she goes out side,it’s good to go  I tell her that there are others like me on this forum that listen to their trucks and she laughs.

I have a similar noise occasionally during cold starts on my 2019 ram 3500. I was assuming it was belt related due to the fact it only happens when it’s 30 or below. I was thinking of buying a Gates HD serpentine belt but I can’t find the length of the 5th gens 6.7. I took it to a dealer but that was just a waste of time.

I noticed on mine that when its plugged in on cold nights it doesn't make the noise but when I don't the noise starts....

Mine hasnt made the noise again but its getting warmer here. definitely has something to do with it being cold. I havnt plugged my truck in yet but if that changes things its concerning! Block heater probably wont affect anything serpentine wise, would lead me to believe the noise is internal.

glad its not just me? I guess haha

Mine was only chirping and the tech noticed it when I had it in for my heated seat issues and a radio reflash and he scheduled for me to get a new belt and tensioner. The tech told me that the belts from Cummins from the factory are junk and said the MOPAR belts are heavy duty and thought they were Gates made? Anyway it fixed my chirp and he also said he had heard from other techs at other dealerships that there were belts shredding on these Cummins trucks with 3-5k miles on them....:-0 Come on FCA.....:-/

CurtJ, I think you have one of the only good FCA dealerships left. I just picked my truck up from the dealer and they say they can't duplicate the noise. I walk outside and start my truck and although not as load due to the warmer weather, the noise is still there. I go back inside to get the tech/mechanic and he refuses to go outside and listen to it. He states "that model is supposed to be noisy like that". I tell him he is full of crap and to go start up another one on their lot and see if they make the same noise. He says "well your truck is broken in and the others are not". I guess Ram is teaching their mechanics that a Cummins is broken in at 4,030 miles. After that, I just left because I am about to explode.

J Buck, wow!!!! Hate to hear they treated you like that! Unacceptable for sure!!! Not sure if there is a TSB for this or not but I did a search on Google after what the tech told me and sure enough, several have complained and had their belt/tensioners replaced. Yes, the new 6.7’s are a bit noisier than the the old 12 and 24 valves due to the def pump and such but they shouldn’t tick and or squeal like is being complained about! They should replace it under warranty just because!!! I have had good luck with Mark from RamCares on here, he’s making things happen getting my issues addressed!!! Keep the Faith and stay on them!

I like the optimism, CurtJ! I guess I will see what happens. I figure worst case, I will continue on making videos of the sound when it happens and start posting them on social media telling everyone that mechanics at my local ram dealer say a $70,000 truck is supposed to make this noise. Then at some point go to my local performance diesel shop and have them fix it. However, I hope it doesn’t come to that.

I hear ya brother!!!!! 70k is a lot of money to us and that’s what mine listed at too!!!!! I feel the exact same way and I’m trying to be very optimistic that my issues will be resolved as well!!!!! At least I have FCA now putting pressure on my dealer so maybe now I won’t keep getting the “it’s normal” answer....:-/ Remember it’s under warranty for 3-36k on everything, and 5-100k on powertrain! Stand your ground and make them work with you and RamCares to get it right!!!!!

Thank you, CurtJ! I sent Mark the info he requested.

On another note, I did get word back from Gates. They did verify by ordering the Mopar belt there was indeed a sizing change in serpentine belts for 2019+. The rep said it would be at least 6 months before they are available in stores.

See thread below. I took mine in and they couldnt figure it out. they opened a star case, but i showed them the other thread. They repalced the belt and belt tensioner. so far the noise is gone. very simple fix, hopefully it works.
