Uconnect 5 FOTA - S21D.5 Release Date 12/22/21

Why then did @RamCares have me check to make sure my radio was updated when i complained about the lack of the option in the menu? (Rhetorical question)
It doesn’t matter what ramcares said. The setting for current gear display is in the Body Control Module, not the radio module, and there is no possible way that a radio update can ever enable that setting. If your truck isn’t equipped with that feature, ram will never enable it for you…ever (you can put it on the list of sure things along with death and taxes). You’d have to use AlfaOBD to enable that setting.

Yeah I got it. Point was @RamCares is a waste of time and does not care at all.

Mine decided to do the automatic update the other night when I was driving the truck. It hasn't had the black screen of death yet but was a bit buggy with Bluetooth and booted but the only happened once soon after. It dais somewhere that it may take up to 24hrs to normalize p
Ok, I am happy & frustrated to report that the update seemed to make is less glitchy but frustrated it still has issues. Since doing the update one of the things it said it was to help with was climate control functionality and in doing so it has taken away the ability for the HVAC, heated seats and steering wheel to automatically set and turn on as they used to prior to the update. I could remote start and if a cold morning I would get in the truck and the steering wheel is hot, seats are hot and cab is warm. Since the update it is all just ambient temps and nothing kicks on until I "turn" the truck on by pressing the button (remember it was auto started already).

I have had only one black screen of death since but this time it took 9 resets (holding power & tune for 30 sec, then shut truck for 30 sec then restarting the truck) vs the normal 4-6 tries. The bluetooth still gets buggy every once in a while and drops connection, or so it says... By that I mean that it says "bluetooth connection has been lost" but yet I can still be on a handsfree call thru the truck and that never drops out or goes anywhere so I assume that it is more of a software glitch as it is staying connected.

This is very frustrating to constantly have these issues and I really hope they have some solid updates soon that actually take care of these annoying issues. Ok, done venting for today

How does what our trucks come with get released and then how do these "updates" get released? smdh Thankfully, UConnect5 programmers aren't handling the engine control code, else we'd all be on the side of the road.

Does the setting for auto climate control still have All Starts selected? If yes, maybe try toggling it off and then back on and that'll get it going again?

Are you using Apple or Android? I have an iPhone and don't even bother with Bluetooth connection to the radio since it connects through CarPlay via Wifi/BT and the phone works through that.

You are spot on about UC5 programmers not handling drivetrain, lol.

Yes, it is selected to have it on auto for all starts. I thought it may have changed after the update so I checked that setting. I have actually tried toggling it on/ off as you mention. Tried it with just key starts and still didn't turn on. Fortunately I'm in Phoenix, Az so it's not like it is needed in other states and these truck heat up quickly but it is still annoying, I bought a Limited to take advantage of some of the niceties it has to offer. I will say that I will truly be pissed if it doesn't work properly by this summer, it is hot and I want my truck as cool as possible when I get in it. I work outside all day every day and like my reprieve from the heat in between stops or on the way home.

I do have an Android and I think you're actually right as I'm pretty sure it connects thru both bluetooth and wifi but still not sure why it keeps booting me. I saw someone else complain about having two phones connected to bluetooth so I've always kept it to just mine only.

I recently completed a survey I received through email and I noted the issues I am having with my UConnect system. I received a phone call yesterday and the person I spoke with said this is a well known issue and they expect an updated software version to be released around March. Not sure how accurate this information is but hopefully she is accurate.

I did not ask about OTA updates but if anyone is curious you might receive a response if you email them directly @[email protected].

No way to force it that I am aware of. You can click the check for updates but I never see it come up with anything available.

Hope that is accurate. Mine has a mind of its own.

My truck got another update today. I do not drive it very often in the winter so I am not sure when the update was released.

Would you mind taking a pic of the version it was updated to, please

Sure I can do that later, the update came as I was getting to the office. It is 13 below out and I do not want to go out there until I need to.

Haha, thanks! I can't say I blame ya, that's chilly, burr... We are at a balmy 55* right now in Phoenix

Now with that being said, how has your auto temp control been working? If you remote start thru the app or the key fob, will it turn on the heat, heated seats & steering wheel? Mine used to do that until the last update it did a few weeks ago. Now I get in and it is still the ambient temp it was prior to starting. I've tried turning the "auto" setting off then back on again and it still doesn't work as intended which is pretty frustrating. If I lived in your climate I'd really be pissed off that it wasn't functioning like it should

So far it has turned everything on with remote start through every update. Before this morning I was on the S21D.5 update as I recall. I will be heading out in an hour or two.
I actually do not drive the truck all that often in the winter since we really only have it for towing our travel trailer. But, I do get it out every couple of weeks.

The "auto on" heated seats and steering wheel function is also dependent upon temperature. I've not figured out the exact temp, but it seems to be about 40 for heated from my experience; I had auto "cool" mode off in summer in my 2013 1500. Temp regulated makes sense to me, my heated seats seem to come on with remote start just fine when its colder, they don't when its "not so cold!" The owners manual only says "in cold weather" or "in warm weather" in referring to the Remote Start. Also says "the vehicle will adjust the climate control settings depending on the outside ambient temperature."

So.....are you sure the heated seats not coming on is an error, or has it been warmer there in Phoenix when you tried to remote start since the last update?

Yes, thank you. I've actually read that part of the manual and you are correct it does have to be 40* or below, so I figured when it was 37* out and on the truck display that it would have worked as intended. And yes, I verified it was still toggled on the settings screen so the wasn't it either. I even set the temp to 78* just to see if it would work as I knew it was going to be a cold night/ morning. The other thing that has been odd since the update is that the auto wipers only worked once, yes it was actually raining and not just a mist or few drops and my headlights were set to auto as well. And while I'm on the rant of stuff not working, while it was raining and the wipers not on automatically and manually turned on at this point, when I shut the wipers the radio went from dim to full bright. The wipers should have no bearing on the lights dimming the dash & radio so something is not right

Mine finally updated to 21C-6 today while I was out running errands. Said to not drive the vehicle but I was pressed for time so did anyway. It finished and I had to reset it to get the HVAC working right again. It had lost the dual climate feature and the temp knobs didn’t work at all. Reset and all seems fine again. Will see if it works any better overall. Before the update started to have wireless CarPlay issues. Had to delete and reconnect iPhone 12 Pro a few times. Could be the iPhone though as it’s jailbroken. Occasionally changing of the volume knobs would be delayed 5-10 seconds. Same with HVAC controls. Randomly, top and bottom rows of icons would disappear and reappear. Randomly would change screens as if someone touched a certain icon. Fingers crossed.
