CJC or AEV intercooler / winch guard

I hope everyone had a great Christmas and got to enjoy their truck (and family) as much as I did.

Quick question as I continue to add to the power wagon:

Is there an actual skid plate option (or "debris shield") for the front of the truck? One that provides coverage from the bumper to the front cross member?

If not, and between the AEV and CJC intercooler covers, what is your preferred plate to cover the gap left by removing the air dam?

If it ever comes down to the time when I install one, it's going to be the CJC. It looks cleaner and I would imagine, protects better against middle of the road growies or errant road stones.
Just my thoughts on it.

I think that is part of my indecisiveness.

The CJC is more enclosed (less holes / gaps) but the AEV looks more solid (mounting points and coverage). If the AEV were solid -- obviously doesn't help airflow and thereby it's purpose-- I would be sold...
 
Is the AEV inter cooler guard compatible with factory bumpers?
 
The AEV guard I believe is only for the AEV bumper. I’m sure it could be modified to fit the factory bumper, but I would just get the CJC guard
 
The air flow is what I questioned as well but, the CJC has been on the market for so long now, one would think there would be red flags about it on different websites (including their website).

True! The AEV looks stouter and if it fit a stock bumper and if the front to back grille was closer together then...Hmmmm?
 
I got a aev guard coming with my bumper on the 4th, I’ll take a look at it before taking off my factory bumper and report back.
 
Thank you everyone. I just read the install instructions for the AEV skid. It is definitely intended for the AEV front bumper. @flan I really appreciate you taking a look to see if the skid will fit with the stock bumper.
 
Guarding a winch and an intercooler have completely different location/geometry/airflow/drainage requirements.

Agreed, Marcus. But, what is the solution? Barring an aftermarket front bumper and its integrated / add on skid.

I know you are working hard to bring us the updated transmission and sump skid, but anything in the works for a simple skid that attaches to the bottom of the winch cradle and bridges the gap back to the front cross member?

Maaaybe :p I'm finishing up a guard for the diesel intercooler and working on a second guard that works on both diesels and power wagons to cover different aspects; which bumper you have *should* be irrelevant.
 
if dropping down on rocks I would go AEV if just wanting a debris guard to keep road crap off the winch I would do the CJC. having seen the CJC in person it is a nice looking set up and doing what the majority of PW do it would be great. sure there are those that beat the crap out of them but face it most don't.

No, it's won't bolt up to the factory bumper. I confirmed this with AEV when they first released it.

With how the CJC guard mounts and is designed I would have ripped it off by now and probably wrecked my front bumper. If you do any kind of wheeling with your PW careful with getting it hung up on things.
 
I have the CJC Intercooler guard. It definitely isn't a skid plate. But it will help protect my intercooler from flying rocks and other debris. What do you PW guys have in that area to protect? Can you gain some ground clearance with a different design?

For sure will not work with the factory bumper. I unpackaged mine today and that’s a fact
