Installed a
Lear Latitude soft, tri-fold bed cover with Cync latch feature. Part number 630137. Don't have any photos as it was dusk by the time I got done. I'll get some tomorrow
Here are my pros and cons about the cover:
Cons:
Stitching around the sides of the cover is the typical 2 lines. Coming from a Rugged Liner cover that has 4, I am hoping two does not mean the vinyl will start to pull away more easily.
The tailgate seal is questionable. It's a piece of vinyl rolled into a tube and sewed to the cover vs. a rubber lip as I've seen on other soft folding covers. When the tailgate is close the tube is just flattened onto itself and really has no "spring" in it to help it seal. How well it works remains to be seen. The couple other soft fold covers I've seen use a stepped lip seal that seals well when the tailgate is closed. Usually, 1 long lip furthers back and then 2-3 shorter ones towards the front. They all curl forwards and seal to the top of the tailgate when it closes.
The front seal where it rests on the front of the bed could be made with a better water/dust seal that holds itself down against the top of the front rail and near the middle would actually fold down around the edge. The Latitude just has a short, flat flap of bed cover vinyl there that does not curl downward at all, it just lays there flat. If anything, the water will hit is and either sit there or flow back towards the cover.
The cover on the sides where the tri-folds are seems to come loose when I fold it. After closing there are bumps there that smooth out if I press on them after unfolding the cover. Not sure if that's normal or what. I'll take some photos and get in touch with Leer.
When folding open the cover, have to be a bit careful to keep the cover from twisting. I've not looked at this closely to see why it's that way. Maybe I need to fold from a different point vs. how I've done my Rugged Liner cover that I had on my '06.
It's quick to remove the cover but the rear latches that clamp to the bed rail still remain installed so unless you want to remove them using the allen key, those could still be in the way of any cargo you haul. My Rugged Cover had left and right rear latches that hook under the bed rail so nothing was left behind when you removed the cover.
Pros:
The material is very thick. Should hold up really well to the elements. I have not driven it to see if it flaps much but I expect it won't as it's very taut.
The Cync latch system works as advertised. I can release it from either side and then fold open the cover without having to go to the other side. At first, I was skeptical of this latching system but after some adjusting it seems to be working properly. Hoping it will hold the rear of the cover down well enough to seal out most water.
The main front latches are aluminum where they hook under the rail so there is no worry about them breaking when tightening down the cover to get a good seal of the front section on the sides and front.
The seals appear to lie flat on the bed rails on front, left and right.
The cover I wanted was from
Rugged Liner but they are discontinuing making them, at least for the Ram line but maybe all together. If anyone comes across an
FCD6509 cover confirmed to be in-stock somewhere, let me know!
