Does anyone have any scoop? Seems like lots only have the cummins right now. A few dealers have the gasser, but only in 2 door tradesmen. I’m in the Northern California area.

Almost impossible to find any HD trucks on the lot right now. Cummins is just a bigger seller so they are producing more so if you find anything it's most likely going to be a diesel.

Good call. Just wondered if there was some weird hold on the 6.4’s

You’re right, I could get a diesel. My old ecodiesel scared me right in to a hemi 1500, and I’d love the extra payload for our next travel trailer. The TT market is insane right now too.. so I can definitely hold out for a while.

I went to several dealers of ALL brands. 2 moths ago.
I wanted a 250/2500, 4x4, light color exterior, leather seats, gas engine. Every single dealer said I have 3 HD's on the lot, 2 are sold, but the other is a black truck, with cloth seats, 2wd, diesel....?

Nope!

So I ordered a truck to all my specs. Enduring the wait.

Not gonna find a high end gasser hardly at all these days. But I do see two 4x4 CCSB tradesmans on the lot with 6.4 Hemi's. I live in coastal bend texas.

I had to order mine I have had at least 10 people ask me where I got it. I personally wouldnt trade it for anything I could have bought a diesel. I didnt want it.

When I started looking a year ago it was 99% diesel for Laramie trims. I never found the options I wanted, so I ordered a truck the way I wanted it from a high volume dealer. It took about 3 months to get.

The ecodiesel and cummins have 0 in common with each other save burning the same fuel.

Dealers try to stock lots with the more capable engine that has a history of more sales.

You are 100% correct.

They both have EGR's, high pressure fuel pumps, DEF, fuel quality issues, potential fuel in water.. and all the other issues that just don't seem to come with a gas rig.

All of which are specific to each motor and have 0 reputation for failure in the new cummins trucks.

And further, which gas are you looking at that has 0 emissions equipment?

Next.....

Not scientific but with the jacked up prices on lots the Hemi’s likely sell faster, current street prices for Hemi is what you typically pay for a diesel…

I talked to a couple of dealers about that. Most only order the 6.4 on the Tradesman trim level. They believe its all about price point at that level. Other than that it is generally the Cummins diesel (exception is the PW as it only comes as a gasser) as most buyers look for an HD truck to have it. We had to order our Limited in order to get it with the big Hemi. Same went for the Indigo/Frost interior instead of Black. For my money, if I needed the diesel (and most who buy it in the 2500 don't NEED it) I would go with a 3500 as you lose way to much payload in the 2500 with the diesel. But its all about personal choice. Their money, their choice.

Super confused the purpose of these comments? I didn't come in here to ask about gas vs. diesel. After owning a diesel, I made the decision they are not for me. I have seen HPFP recalls, EGR recalls, DPF issues and DEF nozzles clogging on different makes. I'm sure I could cruise this forum for examples. As a personal choice, I'd rather not deal with any of that and take the lower potential for head studs snapping or lifters grenading instead.

Add in the benefits for initial cost, ownership cost and larger payload.

Personal choice is fine. The 6.4 is a fine engine and great choice for thousands of people.

The issue is you asserted cummins was a less than desirable choice based on your experience with the Ecodiesel found in the Ram 1500.

Ecodiesel and Cummins are nothing alike, share almost no parts, and are nowhere near an apples/apples comparison when talking about options in the new HD Ram trucks. You would be doing a disservice to other potential new HD Ram buyers in having them dissuaded from what is one of the best light duty truck engines EVER made (Cummins).

I have owned 7 modern diesel trucks. My 2014 eco diesel did have a couple of emission issues that were fixed, the other 6 have been all Cummins rigs. I haven’t had a single major issue of any kind on any of my Cummins trucks. I also owned 2 6.4 Hemi 2500’s, and they were also excellent trucks.
