Drivers A-pillar rain water leak.

This was what I had this past weekend when I had the truck out in the driveway during the hours of rain.

That would certainly make me mad.

Question for you guys that have had the headliner out looking for and fixing the clearance light leaks........do these two items in the picture (I think satellite AM/FM antennas) pose a threat to water intrusion? I always question roof penetrations and an unskilled workforce installing these items. I am a fleet mechanic and have seen some wild stuff slapped together on new vehicles.6B086A0F-5407-4838-A677-35465D960E18.jpeg

I have a 2020 RAM 3500 Limited that's leaking water in the same way as others have described--from the driver's side A-pillar, sun visor pivot point, oh sh*t handle ("front seat grab handle" in official parlance), and from the microphone (?) grill near the sun visor. Depending on parking angle, water can leak into the drivers air vent, into the headlight control module, into connectors, behind the knee bolster...and potentially wreak havoc. I had the same issue on a 2019 2500 that I traded in before the issue was repaired.

Through online searches and www.carcomplaints.com, I found a TSB for the 2019 2500s (23-010-20 REV. A, revised March 2020) https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2020/MC-10175564-9999.pdf . The TSB provides a way to use an irrigation syringe and test leakage between the sunroof glass and the gasket that surrounds it. When I tried it at home, it failed miserably. When I took my truck into the dealer, I took the TSB with me. They apparently tested and confirmed the gasket failure. The ordered a sunroof.

Today my dealer replaced the sunroof...and informed me they also found the attached STAR Case that's on point:
S2123000017 (March 2021) - Water Leak From Front Seat Grab Handle And Or A Pillar
The Star case references inspection of the A-pillar drain tube.

So, my truck will be heading back in for a new tube, soon. Hopefully, that'll resolve the problem.

Hope the info helps others.

Had my 19 LL in for water leaking from the roof, about 2 weeks ago. They replaced the sunroof under a campaign or recall(I don’t remember), and so far so good.…… it won’t stop raining here in SE Texas!

It won't stop raining in South Central,.TX (San Antonio) either. While my dealer replaced the sunroof, that didn't resolve the problem. My truck goes back in next week for the drain tube...hopefully that'll solve the problem.

Anecdotally, I usually back into my sloped driveway, with the front of the truck angled down. It seems that heading in, with the front up, may help.

Following up on my earlier post, my dealer replaced the drivers A-pillar drain tube...problem solved. According to the service manager, it was "kinked as hell."
EDIT: Problem not solved. We had a large storm the other day...leaked again (with the front of truck angled down)

However, just to be safe, I'm ordering a 2022, through Sandi at Mark Dodge...with no sunroof.
No, not just for the leak's sake :)

I just drove through some of the worst down pours that I have ever had to drive through a couple of weeks ago while I was on a trip and not a drop of water came inside my cab.

My A-pillar previously dripped like what's shown in a previous post. But, when I discovered the current leak, the A-pillar was already dried up. Here's more of where the water went from there. Please forgive my cheezy narration.

I had a 2015 2500 MegaCab with Sunroof but no Marker Lights on top. Never wanted the sunroof, but it was otherwise what I wanted and good discount - it had been on lot for 5 months (those were the days) - anyway never opened it for 6 years and never had a leak in wet Louisiana and snow in Illinois. Made strategic error and opened it on a hot day parked in sun to see if it was cooler (Granite Grey with black interior). Next day it leaked - dripping from both sun visors and mirror. Assumed it was not fully closed and reopened / reclosed. Never knew about TSB or others but continued to leak while driving in rain. Still leaks but no longer my problem. 2022 3500 Longhorn on order without marker lights or sunroof.IMG_0219.jpgIMG_0178.jpg

Hurricane Ida vs Tree - Tree lost -
Only good thing is I no longer have to worry about sunroof leak -
45502 miles - Just did the 45k service, changed all filters, topped off DEF, tires rebalanced, rotated, full tank of diesel -
still ran fine when they loaded it to take away

Know this post is pretty old but was wondering if you ever solved The problem. I myself am having the same problem. Seem to me it is leaking from the rear of the sunroof and traveling along the roof in to the drives side channel of the roof which then runs forward and leaks by the windshield.

In the A pillar where the sunroof drain comes out they have a rubber thing on the end of the drain line you can open that up to keep it from clogging my 3rd gen was the same so i opened up the drains and never had an issue again
Can you explain how you opened it up? I’m having this same issue in my brand new power wagon with a sunroof and I already sealed the cab lights

I cut the flaps out of the drains so debris could not get clogged there anymore.

Were those in the top part or bottom of the drain tubes? I’ve had really crappy rainy/snowy weather the last few days so haven’t been able to really dig into it as I don’t have a garage big enough to fit the truck into

I really don't think it is my drains like said in this form earlier I feel. The roof is not structured correctly and is letting way too much water at one time and it can't drain fast enough. Definitely should have been addressed by Chrysler but good luck.

Bottom they are in the door pillars

Your “thinking” is pretty much a waste of time if you are not even going to check the drains….. also Chrysler has not been around since 07 when they sold their controlling shares…. Most people have no issues so its not a roof structure issue unless your roof was not built properly.

I've checked the drains.. It's been back to the dealer multiple times and they even said it's a design flaw on Chrysler and that so much water comes in at one time it has no where to go. I would never by another vehicle that has a hole cut in the roof.

So the 1000s of people who have no issues with the sunroof don’t have this major flaw you speak of? Sounds like the dealer was just telling you what the needed to to avoid the work.
