2022 Ram HD Builds and orders - Post and discuss your TRUCK order here! ** NEW USERS READ POST #1 **

Correct. Most states just charge on the total sales price and allow trade-ins to count against that sales price. You just need to weigh the sales tax savings (59k-your trade) vs how much more you’ll private party your truck for.
For me, I sold it for 6k more than a dealer would trade in…which made up for the $2,100 in tax savings.
For example, I buy 80K truck, tax is 10% ($8000), I trade my truck in for $40K reducing my sales price to 40K resulting in only paying $4000 in taxes?

Mark Dodge told me 250 miles free delivery. I always thought you’ll pay sales tax for the state you register the vehicle in regardless of where you buy it.
I aksed a dealer friend here in Memphis yesterday and she said if I bought in LA for instance, I would pay LA sales tax and not TN sales tax and I wouldn't have to pay TN tax when i registered. This makes sense to me, because people who move from state to state and have to re-register their vehicles wouldn't have to pay sales tax when they move, right?

Mxsnow, did you make your contact that you posted about yesterday? Pls post if you learn of any 22 cosmetic changes. Thanks in advance.
Still waiting for a reply, called back and left another message. He left a message saying mine was due to be built in late August, trying to get ahold of him again for any changes that were made,he is a product development manager

With a new vehicle purchase the dealer registers it to your resident state and the sales tax gets added to the contract then gets paid to that state. You’ll only pay tax once. If you move and register the vehicle in another state you won’t pay sales tax but you will most likely pay a registration fee based on vehicle value.

I’m not a tax advisor, but that’s how it’s supposed to work. The trade in value (depending on your state’s laws) can lower the taxes on your purchase price.

Generally, you pay tax on the vehicle based on where you live . They have it set up so you can't go somewhere else (other state or county) to buy a vehicle in order to beat the tax rate.

That makes even more sense then. Thanks.

Thanks. The sales manager was trying to explain that to me. Apparently in Washington that’s a thing.

Well, was a little confused but Sandi set me straight. I was looking at my build sheets last night. The one I signed, for purchase, showed Adaptive Steering System. But, when I was looking at the one Sandi sent me for my VIN, it didn’t show it. She said that it has since been added to the Limited Level 1 equipment group. So, if anybody sees it, don’t freak out, haha.

I just confirmed that the Tableau dashboard I created for the 2022 HD orders spreadsheet updated automatically overnight to reflect new data. If we ever get actual ship dates added to the spreadsheet, I will update it to show those as well. If you have any suggestions for changes to the dashboard (or other views that I can add as additional dashboards) let me know. https://public.tableau.com/app/profile/todd.johnson8214/viz/2022HDOrderTracking/Dashboard1

Re: Sales tax deduction vs. higher prices, there are lots of auto loan calculators out there. One of the best I've found, which includes calculations for trade-in allowance and the corresponding sales tax deduction is:

The tool allows me to easily see the effects of taking a lower trade-in price vs. private sale (or Vroom, CarMax, etc.) values.

Note: Don't be deterred by the Dinkytown name. it's simply the part of Minneapolis that the company is in. Their calculators are used by a number of surprisingly large financial institutions.

I'm curious about what some of the info on the POC means. My POC from yesterday has the following:

Status: D - firm schedule: serial number is assigned
Est. Ship date: 8/12/2021 1:59 AM (not sure how they can get that down to the minute)
Scheduling priority: 1-Sold Order
Build Priority: 01
PSP Month/Week is blank.

I'm seeing D1 status on some posts here, so I'm not sure why this is still showing D status with a ship date of 8/12

I was originally going to sell my GTR privately and asked $115k. But got an offer from the dealer for $106k. After calculating it out though.. with the tax savings it was as if they gave me $121k for it. See how below.
Truck I ordered - $103k, sales tax in my area is 15%. Because I traded in the GTR which was worth more than the purchase amount.. I pay 0 taxes.. so in essence, I would have had to sell the GTR for $121k to equal the same that trading it got me. I could even take cash back or add accessories all the way up to the $106k that they gave me for GTR and I would pay 0 tax on it.

Is that CAD? Mind blown if it’s USD lol!!

Lol. I was wondering if you got the gold plated frame and Louis Vuitton seats or something.
That’s a nice trade in though. Would think it’ll be easy for the dealer to sell that GTR
No LV seats but delete will save me enough $ in fuel where I can buy another LV bag for the wife for putting up with the cold starts in the mornings :p
