Winter Fronts

With my first winter around the corner with my new ram I'm looking for recommendations on winter fronts. Even though i don't have a diesel I get a lot of -35 to -40 mornings here and want to make sure I'm well prepared. I've seen mopar offers a winter front for the diesels which im guessing should work for my hemi and would possibly interests me but id like to see what others have or recommend.
 
My 21 PW has active grille shutters which I would imagine would do a much better job at automatically maintaining airflow to the radiator than a cover would.
 
Yeah my truck has the active grill shutters as well but im unsure of how well they work in the extreme cold versus a winter front such as the mopar diesel one.

Gas engines do not need a winter front you are fine as it is now, diesels only need them as they dont make enough heat….
 
I’ve heard the winter front end worked well to improve mpg on 2014-2018 Hemi 6.4 trucks (these engines do like to run a bit warmer), but the 2019+ have the active shutters so the grille Cover would be redundant.

Also the 2019-present HD trucks have the air intake thru the grille above the radiator, manually blocking this air for could have negative effects on engine performance if it cannot get enough air.

Do you have a block heater and battery blanket on your truck?

It will still be able to pull air no issues for the intake, and a gasser should have no issue hitting and maintaining operating temps as long as the T-stat is good so i dont see how the winter front would change the MPG?

Idk that’s just what I read somewhere. Again, not relevant to the 2019+ trucks

Interesting did a lot of driving this past week, about 2400 miles. Was watching Coolant and Oil temps up and down some long climbs/descents on I-70 and I-15 in Colorado, Utah, California.
Oil temp was typically 205-220. Coolant temp varied more dramatically, 185 to 220, and it would change quickly. I would see it drop pretty fast even while climbing, I’m guessing that was the electric fan kicking in, or maybe it had the shutters closed and was opening them up.
 
Do these have electric fans? I’ve only seen the viscous clutch fan

Thanks for the info. I didn't think about the air intake. I do have a block heater and heated Battery blanket(these should be standard with a block heater in any extreme cold weather area)
 
I had a 2010 Ram 1500 with the 4.7 way back when and I had winter fronts for it. Made night and day difference. Now I have a 2019 Ram 2500 with the 6.4L and I can confirm that in Winnipeg, MB Canada, even when it hits the lowest temps with windchill (-50 ish), I have had zero issues without a winter front. The active shutters do a beautiful job.

Only advice I have for you if cold really is a problem is invest in a decent two way command start (I find the Ram factory command start to be garbage both with range and with it not being two way). I know its over kill but I have my run time set to 30 minutes, I usually let her run for 15-20 minutes and as long as the night before I remembered to set the fan on hot and high, by the time I hop in my truck I dont have to do more than a quick use of the snow brush. Roasty warm and can wear a t-shirt inside the cab instead of being bundled up
