I am turning my 2019 Laramie 6.4 Hemi into an overlanding truck. I want to put a winch on it and have a question. Can I install a winch with the current OEM front bumper.
OR
Will a 2019 Powerwagon front bumper will be a better option
I don’t want an after market set up because I like the OEM looks
And I didn’t opt for the Power wagon because I like the bucket seats and center console
Thanks for your help

you will need the whole cradle assembly and to purchase a PW winch from MOPAR because the controller is clocked differently from the standard WARN Zeon winch and the brake assembly is different as well. if you remove the lower grill section in the bumper (im assuming you have the that) then you would have room for the fairlead and i dont believe there are any other differences in the bumper itself

On the older versions you would then open the control module up and remove the thermal switch. I havent investigated it on the zeon winch yet or had an issue running into it. Have had more electrical issues than thermal shut down issues (battery / power saver mode / excess ignition off current drain etc..)

- stock 2019 PW here

I assumed the PW Bumper was a little more stout. It's just the internals that are different? Seems like a good option if that is the case. ??

Would it not be easier and cheaper in the long run to trade for a power wagon? That would give you the winch, the better suspension, the locking diffs, etc...what you are trying to do is the reason the power wagon is built. I know you said you like the seats but in an off-road situation everything the PW has to offer, you would be cheaper swapping the interior of a power wagon than getting a 2500 Laramie as off-road capable.

integrated winch is cool and clean looking

aftermarket bumper with winch is stronger, offers corner protection and better recovery points. You lose a little approach angle but the benefits outweigh the losses. A good adventure bumper will have enough strength to slide it up over things if you exceed your approach angle and it won’t take damage other than some paint loss

FYI the factory tow hooks are designed to fall back into the bumper if you hit something. Bump into a tree and it’s now useless. If you want to see what I mean, remove the bolts holding them in and slide them out the front. You’ll see they are strong in the pulling direction and breakaway in the pushing direction. The small tab is very small. Wouldn’t take much to lose a tow hook. I would post a pic of them but I took all my scrap last month

go aftermarket.

I love that bumper. What model is it?

I'm torn between the hidden winch with stock bumper and doing an aftermarket winch bumper like yours. Ideally I would go aftermarket like your AEV for all the reasons you mentioned (functionality, protection, winch accessibility, looks), but unfortunately I think it'll add just enough length to the truck to keep me from being able to park in my garage (I know... it's a truck park it outside... but in Colorado it's kind of nice to have it inside when it's snowing or hailing). Any idea how much length the AEV bumper adds over stock?

I never measured the stock bumper but I can measure length in front of grille for you later so you can measure the net change
