White smoke/vapor during Regen?

Hello all - havent posted in a while since taking delivery of my 2022 Cummins HO. Overall, been happy with the truck.

Recently, started getting the regen too frequent CEL and dealer replaced the air filter (to the one that ends in the "AB" part number) and replaced the DPF itself. About 3-4 hrs of drive time after the new DPF, truck started a regen cycle, so I think I still have the too frequent regen issue (maybe the sensor is the next step?), but today while stopped at a red light during the regenm there was a good amount of white smoke / vapor / mist coming from under or around the passenger side front wheel well. Never seen that before. Truck also was hissing, which I know can be normal during a regen but I've never heard it before on this truck. I was honestly afraid the thing was going to catch on fire so I immedtiately went back home.

I know the regen issue would be better if the truck pulled a heavy trailer more often (we pull a 5th with it at times), but the smoke / vapor / mist just doesnt seem normal at all.

I'm calling the dealer first thing tomorrow morning (today is Sunday 7/2), but thought I'd ask if anyone has ever had something like this happen before. Thanks in advance.

A wild guess would be a new decal or penetrating lube used during the service appt burning off? Beats me, let us know what they find...

I've had it happen in freightliner like that. Going down the highway it looked like I was fogging for mosquitos. Lasted for about 20 miles. Shop guys advised it was a strong buildup of def in the filter.


Never in my 2022 Ram.

Most likely an exhaust leak, probably the v-band clamp on the inlet to the DOC is loose or not installed correctly

So spoke with the dealership. On the frequent regen issue, they are going to get the truck back in and run a soot load test. I'm going to see if they will go ahead and replace any of the key sensors involved as well while they have it. They did tell me, again, that this is a known problem (hence all the threads on it here) with the 2022 HO Cummins, FWIW, and that Ram/Cummins doesnt have a fix for it at this time. So, that's awesome. On the smoke / mist / vapor, they said that was likely a combination of the soot in the system from the old, clogged DPF that was replaced and the oil that comes on the filter. Sure enough, drove it about 30 mins today at highway speed and that issue seems to be resolved. I did ask them to check all of the clamps/hoses removed and then put back on during the DPF replacement, just in case.

So the dealer found an exhaust leak via a gasket (not sure which one). They beleive that is causing both the frequent regens (and based on a quick Goole search, that could be true) as well as allowing the vapor/steam/smoke which I saw to escape. Luckily they had the gasket in stock and I'll get the truck back tomorrow.

Yep, didnt work. Got the truck back Friday. Drove it a mix of city/highway miles (maybe 50 in total) and it did 2 active regens, one Saturday and one Sunday.

To close the loop on the smoke issue, guess the exhaust gasket was bad, that issue seems to have been fixed.
