I had a 19 Laramie CTD mega cab 4x4. Traded it for a 23 Limited Longhorn CTD mega cab 4x4. The steering feels way better/lighter, and the turning radius feels better.

BUT when going over washboard or a rough road the pedal/front driver side suspension rattles a lot compared to the 19. Did Ram make changes in the front suspension/steering between model years?

Im guessing your new one has lane assist that would be the steering difference because of the TQ overlay on the steering box.

Yeah, it has the lane assist. Interesting. It feels so much better - though I keep the lane assist disabled.

Yea its gonna feel lighter for sure even with lane assist off. The suspension rattle is a warranty problem in my eyes

Thanks for the info, it makes sense. Not what I wanted to hear on the rattle, I hate dealing with dealers. I was hoping you'd say it's just a byproduct of the lane assist and the components being different or something.

If you have Lane Assist you automatically have "Adaptive Steering", which increases steering assist power as your speed goes down, making it much easier to steer at low speeds. Definitely shouldn't contribute to any rattling though.

The rattling could be so many things i don't want to steer you in the wrong direction on a guess

My son's 3500 has lane assist, and his steering is very different from mine

It might not be anything either. My dad has the same truck, I'm going to drive it on the same road in the next couple days and see if his does it. It's really that I feel the washboard in the gas pedal - its just weird.

I did almost the same, trading an 18 Laramie CTD 2500 on a 22 Ltd Longhorn CTD 2500, both megacabs. I'm not a fan of the super light steering, personally. It took me a lot of getting used to. If I could, I'd turn it off.

I don't have the rattling issues, in either truck.

So this is coming from a complete novice with this stuff, but I got under the truck and of course to the naked eye everything looks right. But I did notice this piece on the driver side is not 'square' with the mounting point, it is turned more towards the front of the truck, not by a ton but it is.

I also drove my dad's truck today and it does none of the rattle/clunk that mine does over the washboard/potholes. I drove it on the same stretch of road that I do every day.

The first pic is the driver's side, the bright metal piece comes down into a boot, well you can see the boot is kind of stretched on the side I'm taking the picture from (the front side of the truck)
The second pic is the passenger side, it is basically square with the bottom mounting point (where it has the through bolt)
Might there be anything to this?

Ugh, guess I will call the dealer tomorrow.

I just googled some stuff and found this pic, driver side looks the same so it must be normal.

Yep its normal as its a ball and socket.

I have the adaptive steering option on my 2022 Mega and I hate it. Zero steering feel. Feels like a GMC with waaaay to much assist.

There’s no steering feel even without adaptive steering. These trucks have recirculating ball steering, not rack and pinion.

Incorrect on the steering feel. I have a 2022 Crew Cab for work and it has a nice solid road feel. Feels a bit heavy just the way I like it.

Running 37’s on my 2023 limited and steering is just fine….
