Unhooking fiver trailer w/ air ride susp.

Well Carl, I think I'm even more confused on this situation than I was before. This morning, I took off the lube plate and hooked up, lifted legs and let truck do its thing, we then hit the sir susp button so truck would go to regular position ( and it did), we put the legs down and started lifting and there was no gap or space ever like on my last set up, to give you an indication that your high enough that the pin box has separated from the head. We worked on getting un hooked and were to high, then when we thought we had it, it was to low and the head stood up. I got it off there and reinstalled the plate and hooked back up and hauled @$$ out of there with no answers, just more confusion. There should of been a gap with no lube plate. I'm dumb founded.

I know you're an old trucker, but is it possible you high hitched and bent something at some point?

Everything looks perfectly aligned and straight. The only thing extra is that the 1/4" steal capture plate that's welded onto the pin box slide plate that rides up head. When I had my old slider hitch, I had to have that special capture plate welded on so it would turn the slider hitch head. All I did to prep it for my new hitch was to cut off that box piece of Steele that was located behind the king pin on the plate. figured That would be easier to remove than whole extra plate. That left a totally clean plate for it to spin around on. Just a double thick layer of slide plate but 1/4" steel plate shouldn't make all that difference. I had so much gap on the old set up. You can see it there in the picture20200529_182131.jpg

QCCP.pngthe top plate is the one that I have welded on the bottom of my current pin box except for that I cut the square box off from behind pin hole. All that did was make the slider work as designed, now it spins freely

Do you think on the single jaw slider hitch, that it was just wore out and that's why you could create a space big enough for a finger to fit between and on this new double jaw tight hitch, that there is zero extra room for absolutely any tolerance, even just a quarter inch steal plate. They put all those crews in mine like the design but they welded all the way around the edges as well, that's were I'm #<@*Screenshot_20200529-184958.png

I just saw this thread this morning. I didn't know if this would help your clearance issue when making a turn?
Great find hemi, that's good info to know, interesting to see if it works or not. The downside for me is that I need it to stay lowered so when I get off interstate and make a turn it won't hit. 25 mph ain't nothing but burping the throttle.

I like my Andersen hitch way more than any of the traditional 5th wheel hitches or sliders I've owned. The Andersen is so easy to hitch and unhitch, even at odd angles. I don't have any clearance problems with my short bed. I can remove it or install it by myself in under 5 minutes. There is no bucking or chucking. It is whisper quiet. I don't have to worry about grease. It doesn't rust.

I know people get really attached to a specific hitch (sorry for the pun), but please consider an Andersen hitch. You won't regret it.

I did just what you said. Going into apps and hitting the bed lower button, you can definitely see it drop down. I didn't try traveling like that but honestly my hitch still wouldn't clear bed sides so it didn't matter for me. I'm assuming after I got up to any speed that it would of raised up anyway. Arrived at cg today and had the same problem, can't tell when to stop lifting legs to detach. Oh well i guess i got a month to figure something out.

Were you hooked up to something

No. Bed Lowering should lower the truck TO hook up to something. Doesn't seem to do diddly or I'm just not seeing it do much more than 1/2".

It also cancels if you move. You're conflating the aux ride height with bed lowering.

On the 2500 trucks with coils, bed lowering runs about 3". On the 3500 trucks with leafs it's only supposed to be around 1".

On 3500 the bed will not lower to alt height until it feels a load on . Only then will it lower and level out . By design

Correct. Except you're quoting my post talking about "Bed Lowering." It's in the Uconnect. They are two separate and distinct selections.

This is like a bad game of telephone.

Alternate Trailer Height = 1" lower ride height when trailering a load.

Bed Lowering Mode = SUPPOSED to lower the bed 1" (3500) to hook up. 2500 = 3" lower. You cannot tow in Bed Lowering Mode.

When I hooked up this morning and it went into auto alt height lowering mode. When it got all done i hit the lowering button in apps and it dropped some more. I didn't measure it but it did seam significant. I then hit the alt height button and it went back up for travel. Honestly it seamed pretty worthless to me unless i could travel like that but everyone said after you go so fast i it goes back to previous setting, so I didn't waste any more time since it won't stay like that. Now if I was hustling trailers around all day, I could see how that would be helpful

Bed lowering mode resets to normal/alt ride height once underway. The Bed lowering mode is to only aide in removing load from the bed, mainly for when you get a yard or two of rock/mulch and need to shovel it out.

So does it kick out of lowest mode at 7mph like surround view camera or any movement like navigation keyboard or 25 mph. I'm just asking cuz I'm wondering if i hit it on the exit ramp if it will drop down for better pin box clearance

Is that you being sarcastic?
