Good day all,

Unfortunately my 2021 Ram 3500 turbo decided it had had enough and is in need of replacment. I was hoping not to visit this for a very long time, but I only made it just shy of 40,000 miles. My truck is on a diet, but I'd prefer to stay with a drop in style VGT. Despite the known issues with VGTs, I personally have no problem with running them. Tell me your experience with some of the different turbos out on the market such as Cheetah, Stealth, and etc. I want to know the good and the bad experiences you've had.
Greg

We run Cheetahs on all our work rigs that need turbos, and they work great.

The turbo is covered under the 5/100K power train warranty so why not have Ram fix it if you only have 40K on it? The below is from Duck.AI

The 2021 Ram 2500 6.7L diesel turbocharger is covered under the same 5-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty as the rest of the engine components. This warranty ensures that any defects in the materials or workmanship are addressed, covering essential components that include the turbocharger.

Warranty Coverage Details

  • Duration: 5 years or 100,000 miles (whichever comes first).
  • Components Covered: Turbocharger, engine, transmission, and other powertrain elements.
  • Exclusions: Regular maintenance, wear and tear items, and damages not due to manufacturing defects.
This generous warranty provides significant peace of mind for owners, ensuring that they are protected against unexpected failures in their vehicle's critical systems.

While that's all good and well, theres three main reasons that doesn't work for me. Firstly, none of the dealers in my area are even competent enough to take care of recalls let alone fix anything. It sounds harsh, but I've given them the benefit of the doubt and regretted it every time. Secondly I rather have something a little better then stock since I'm in this situation anyway. Thirdly, my truck is on the weight-loss program (mentioned in my original post) which I know kills that warranty.

They wont warranty a deleted truck…

heck, 2G swap it since its deleted :p (there's a few 2G swap kits I can rattle off...Point Zero Fab, Evil Fab, Philips Fab and WC Fab come to mind. The "most" complete kits if seen were Point Zero, they include everything down to the coolant re-routes. Other kits, you sometimes have to Frankenstein other parts to put it all together.

Well, Stainless Diesel makes some good drop in VGT units...depending what you want to achieve and budget.....If you want OEM, rebuild yours..want some noise, go with the Fleece. OR if you want some whistle, they have a 5 blade compressor with a 9 blade turbine..I helped install one on a buddy's truck. That thing is R-O-W-D-Y. Its a 63/64...Damn thing sounds like a jet. If you tow a lot, they also have the Tow boss. Good Luck
