I have a 2022 2500 limited with TTPMS. The sensors appear to be internal and require the tires on the trailer to be pulled and remounted. But then they will still need to be calibrated. Who have you guys used to do this? Do you just have a tire shop install the then calibrate yourself? Any trouble with that?
 
After Les Schwab installed, I completed the pairing, no problems.
 
After the sensors are installed, there's a pairing procedure in the Trailer menu in the radio.

It requires you to let out air, so make sure you have access to refill the tires after.

I just took my 5th wheel to my RV Maintenance person and he said the TPMS that is provided with the TPMS kit is designed to work with steel rims only ... and that I needed different valves for Aluminum rims. Has anyone else run into that issue?

I don’t see why that would make a deference Did you have them install the sensors ?
 
There was another post on here where someone had the install done and the shop had to try multiple sets of gaskets/seals that come with other sensor kits until they found what sealed properly.
I will probably just buy the correct sensors for aluminum since they are fairly inexpensive.

There are also longer extensions available from the OEM. Can't recall who that is, but there was some posts here about it.

Use the Advanced search button at the top of the page, or google site search, not the (useless) magnifying glass.
 
Thank you for the input and I am going to call them again on monday to try to verify the issue. As it was explained to me, the aluminum rims are thicker than steel so that is why they would not work. I've never heard of this being an issue before. I've got a call into my Ram dealer as well and was told he would check into the issue and whether they have different TPMS.
 
I had mine installed on aluminum wheels and they fit and are holding air, but multiple attempts to sync the with the truck have not worked. I will try calling the help line in the truck while I am next to the trailer to see if they can assist in any way.
 
I have a new (2022) 2500 and had Discount Tire install the TPMS kit that came with the truck on my two-axle trailer which has aluminum rims. They had no problem installing the stems. They gave me back a handful of various
adaptor washers that came with the kit and were not used. They also said they replaced the rim/stem seals with their own as standard practice. (They also installed a new set of Goodyear Endurance tires on the trailer.) The stems are however long. Too long for my rims IMHO. I may look into swapping out the stems for shorter ones if the longer OEM ones create some problem (?). I did not know the shorter stems were available or that the OEM TPMS valve stems were serviceable that way.

l plan on pairing the new stems to the truck this weekend. I hope that process goes without a problem.
 
Ya, I had the OEM kit installed, worked good but they stuck out a bunch (as you've seen), so I did some digging, but there's only couple companies that make TPMS sensors. And luckily, one of them said "yep, we have a shorter stem". So that's what I went with. Luckily, if the tires go back on the trailer in the same spot, you don't have to do the pairing sequence again.
 
rFullen280… Were there any issues swapping out the valve stems? Do you think any tire guy could do it? Ie: oh yea it’s a no brainer, or takes some thought if a person has never done it and could screw it up? Also, how fast were the stems shipped once you ordered them?

Back story…I have to take my trailer back in to Discount Tire (soon) to have the tires rebalanced. When they installed the new set of tires, the wheel weights were rim-clamp ons (ugly) instead of behind-the-spoke glue ons. I have nice aluminum rims and don’t want to see the weights hanging on the outside. I need to take the trailer back in to have the wheels weights moved (requires rebalancing) and maybe they could swap the stems during the same work order.

Yeah it's pretty idiot proof, because if they installed the original sensors they had to assemble them too. Takes about a week I think to ship it's about nine dollars per stem plus shipping but it was pretty quick. Because there's no electronics in the stem so they don't have to wait for them to come from China.
 
I just had my sensors installed on aluminum wheels by my RV shop. They just did it. No mention of any problem. Pairing is a giant PIA though. Easy if they all pair but if any fail you go back to step1. Argh, took me a bit but finally got all paired this morning.
 
I have tried pairing them numerous times and cannot get past tire #1. I even called Ram Care only to be told they are not technicians and I would need to take it to the dealership, totally useless.

RamCares is the customer relations and online presence for Ram, why would you think they could provide technical support?
