I'll soon be doing a service on my 68RFE. Looking for some opinions on installing a PPE pan at the same time which would hold approximately 3 more quarts of fluid. Is there any truth to the hype that this will decrease the operating temperature, or, is it just another after market solution to a problem that doesn't really exist? I don't tow heavy, but do tow a 6K lb travel trailer through mountains quite often.

It won’t change operating temperatures one bit. More fluid just takes a bit longer to heat up is all.

I put one in, and the drain plug is invaluable. It’s a nice piece.

I added a deep Mag Hi-Tec pan to my 46RE, it did NOT have any effect on trans temps. Like TP said, it just prolongs the inevitable by a few extra miles. BUT yeah, that drain plug was nice.

Thanks guys. Is there a longer neck sump filter available for the deep sump pans? PPE makes a larger spin on filter but not sure about the sump filter.

I just run a MOPAR sump filter on mine, with the PPE spin on unit that came with the pan.

I had one and as another mentioned it didn’t change it . I was towing 15 k at the time . Mine ran at about 225 on a hot day pulling grades or in stop and go traffic . Still running with about 120k miles on it .

Thanks, starting to sound like a lot of cash for the future convenience of a drain plug. I'll probably weld a bung into the OE pan and call it a day.

If that’s the route you prefer, Dorman makes a bung that just requires you to drill a hole, and then simply bolt in the drain plug.

About as easy as it gets.
