I bought my truck(25 Laramie 2500 CTD) June 13th and drove it for two weeks
On 5 July the truck wouldn’t move in forward or reverse gears and wouldn’t shift into park. I had to pull a relay and disconnect the batteries to shut it off.
Had it towed to dealer. The dealer has had the truck since the 5th of July and has an open STAR case. The part it needs is the TCM/Valvebody which is apparently on back order until atleast October with no current ETA. I have opened a Ramcare case but so far they sent an email that says it’s expedited but still with no ETA.

Dealer says a replacement truck/buyback would likely take several months.

I’ve asked if they can just replace the entire transmission as the TCM/valvebody is a sub assembly and we know those aren’t backordered.

I’ll know more next week…

That sucks, right when you should be enjoying your new truck! Hopefully it all works out for you.

I purchased my 2025 RAM 2500 CTD in May 2025. Continuously since day one, I noticed oil on both sides of the truck. Then a wining noise, and an abnormal jerking when coming to a stop. I took it to the dealer on July 8, 2025. Long story short... the oil was actually transmission fluid. The transmission case was cracked with a visible attempt to repair prior to install at the factory. Disappointing, but things happen. After several false promises, they told me the transmissions are back ordered until at least September.

I have a RAM Care open case, which has proven to a complete waste of time.

The dealer has treated me well thru the process and has agreed to buy back my truck and sell me a new one. It is effectively a straight trade for me. The new truck does have a $3,500 higher MSRP too. Should get the new truck today. I am unclear if RAM has kicked anything in to the deal or not. Hopefully they have.

I hope you got a loaner at least...
I did end up with a loaner but it was 1500 without a tow package so I’m pretty limited to what truck things I can do while I wait.

The part (Valvebody/tcm) came in but they don’t know how to program it so I’m stuck waiting ….. again.

If it’s not fixed at this point I’ll probably have to ask for a buy back.

I don’t know if I’ll order a new truck or go find something older if I do the buyback.

I’m hoping my dealership treats me the same. I was just informed today that my brand new truck with 200 miles needs a new transmission and they are on back order with no eta. The dealership has my truck going on its third week already. I also have a case started with Ram and sent an email stating that I want to start a buyback case or be given the opportunity of getting an equivalent new vehicle. I traded in a perfect condition 2022 6.7 for a new 2025 with transmission problems and trailer connector problems already.

We Bought a 2025 Ram 2500 Laramie short bed on 9/19/2025 with about 60 miles on it and drove off the lot at 5 pm that night. Drove great on the way home and the next morning. Around noon on 9/20/25, I was headed back to dealership for them to replace the rear matts as they had been heavily scuffed. On my way to the dealership, I started having problems with the transmission. Around 25 mph there was a delay in shifting to the next gear, the engine rpms would increase but no shift and when it did shift there was a loud clunk you could feel as it shifted into gear. After about the third time of this, a “Service Transmission” appeared on the instrument display, so I pulled over and shut motor off and restarted it. There was no message to service the transmission, but it kept happening. When it did finally shift to the next gear I was limited to about 43 mph because the trucks rpm was at 3,000. However, after selecting the tow haul mode and then turning the tow haul mode off, the transmission shifted into a gear where I could do 60 mph at 3,000 rpm. Just about 1/4 mile from the dealership I had to slow down to less than 25 mph and the delayed shifting occurred and the Service Transmission message reappeared followed by 3 other warning messages. I had to leave the truck at the dealership on Saturday for service less than 19 hours after driving it off the lot and only putting around 70 miles on it. They updated the transmission software yesterday, but that didn’t work. The last word we got today is that they are tearing the transmission apart. We will see what happens next. The journey now begins.

I have had a similar experience. Purchased a 3500 on September 27. On October 3rd the trans started bucking and reverse did not work. At 20 mph I was able to nurse it into the nearest dealership. They treated me great. Determined the trans needed replacement. Picked the truck up on October 29th and all seemed to be good. On November 3rd I looked under the truck and saw that the trans was leaking from the area of the bell housing. Dropped it off this morning at a local dealership. Absolutely loved my 2017 3500. Want to love this truck, but now I will have a hard time trusting it when I'm traveling with my wife and the grandkids.

If the issue happens that quickly, I’m sure it would happen again at a similar time span. After some miles, I bet you’ll start to trust it again.

Hope all goes well for you.

If it weren't back in the service department so quickly, I would agree. Now, I don't know.

I have a 2026 Ram 2500 Tradesman with Power Wagon package. Purchased with 13 miles on it in October 2025…from get go, reverse would go up to 15 mph! That slowly got under control but had off and on issue of jerking while in 1st gear between 7-12 mph. Got to 1000 miles and worsened. Brought to dealer who said they had another new 26 with 3 miles on it with crap transmission! Tech said Ram would make them open a Star case and prob make him install a new valve body but after he took photos showing lot of metal in fluid, new transmission was ordered and Ram is having old one sent back to them to “study”.

Traded in a 16 Ram Power Wagon with 130k miles to get the 8 spd…yet that is what is junk on my new truck that has spent half of my ownership at dealership.

I'm in the same boat, unfortunately. '25 2500 6.7L and absolutely love it.

Mine started having hard shifting from 2-3 and 3-4, but once it warmed up past 90 degrees it ran flawless. This all happened overnight, perfect one day the next morning the issues. After letting my truck warm up like normal, it shifted hard into reverse and then in the forward gears. After that my dash warning came onto service but shut the truck down and it went away. Ironically, Ram wasn't able to see this when they hooked up to it. Had a few times where it went into limp mode, not changing gears and couldn't go past a certain speed and check engine light on (again the dealer couldn't tell anything from it) but would correct by turning the truck off for a minute.

Took it to the dealer and tried many things. TSB, reset the learn on it, checked fluids-drained too much off, tried again, Star case started, more checking, more waiting etc. Fast forward to a couple weeks ago, pulled the trans fluid to check it. I guess the good news is no metal in the pan, bad news is the wait for a valve body. If that doesn't work then a new transmission.

Here's where my heartburn really comes from, this started in Nov and my confidence is low in this being resolved. No one can get an ETA on the valve bodies which is a restricted part along with transmissions- makes for a piss poor business model and the only person suffering is the consumer and really no one has any clue when a part will be available. Doesn't hurt Ram or Stellantis one bit meanwhile I still make my payments on a truck I can't use or even have in my possession anymore. Secondly, I feel like a guinea pig with how the diagnostics is going-meaning lets try this, then if that doesn't work we go this route and a valve body may fix the issue or it many not just more waiting. The truck is brand new, really shouldn't have these problems at all but also feel that Ram should really be stepping up and solving these things quickly and make these parts readily available to dealers not treating them like gold and dealerships are just making stuff up.

Anyway, just more waiting and frustration.

@RAM and Stellantis...DO BETTER
