Transmission inconsistencies

2024 PW here.

Since day one, I don’t know whether to be concerned or, “ that’s a power wagon”

Upon first start up in the morning and I drive down my street. The transmission is not the smoothest. Kind of lunges. Once I pick up the pace, it seems to go away.

Also, just driving down on highway roads 50 to 70 if I try to maintain a certain speed sometimes it kind of skips a beat for a second. It doesn’t seem to bother anything but you definitely notice it in the truck. Just don’t know if that’s typical or I should take it in and have it looked at? 20,000 miles on it now.

1st thing I'd try is a relearn on the trans. Pretty sure you can do it with alfaobd and a bypass cable. Or a decent bi directional scan too with an autoauth account. Disconnecting the battery for a while might do it too. IDK

That's probably the first thing the dealer will try anyway.
Next is take your VIN and look for any TSB on that issue.
Don't expect the dealer to look very hard for it.
I had to dig up the one for a trans issue on my 23, print it out and take it with me before they'd flash it.

It’s not bad. It’s just different. Never owning a 2500 or a PW before I chalked it up to its just “the way” with these things. But then I start to think, is it supposed to do that? Or is this the future of bad things to come? Can’t get out of my own way.

The ZF is a very smooth shifting trans. Are you running larger tires by any chance?

I have the same thing with mine when first starting. It's actually not the trans but the engine is still in start loop and once you accelerate hard enough it comes out of this. Try letting it warm up for 5 minutes minimum and then drive see if it happens then.

So I agree with this. As soon as you hit some speed, it goes away upon initial start up.

But, it still searches a little differently at times when maintaining speed. You’ll get that little hiccup that makes me wonder if that should be there.

mine does the same. I notice it in the AM on Flat or downhill roads. Once I get going the hiccups stop. Also have an intermittent skip cruising under 50. Hoping it’s normal

Yes to all of that. That’s exactly it. Never owning a 2500 I assume it’s a way of life. Kinda hoping fit is.

Setting the tire size will smooth out the shifting. I changed mine a few times to get it right. Once I did the truck is nicer to drive an pull with.

I honestly thought it was more of a vanity change just to get speedo right and maybe TPMS light to turn off. Thought I could live with those.
Maybe not
Thanks.

I'd give that a go, then. I'm going with the AEV snap myself once I order my 35". I don't care about all the other stuff alphaOBD does nor do I want the complexity of dealing with changing all the settings through that interface, getting the extra cables, etc. I think the AEV looks much simpler, and all I care about is tire size and TPMS.
