I know, I know....they are junk but said from the beginning they work for my purpose at this time and will run them till they are done. That said, can I get some opinions on this before camping season arrives and we are towing a bunch? My tires are cracking at 8k miles and 1 year old. I have older tires with more miles and abuse that don't show these cracks and I believe it to be dry rot. Thoughts?

I have my recall scheduled for Tuesday and have this on the list of things to address as well.

Hard to tell from the photo but it looks like it is wearing on the outside. Maybe take a tire depth gauge and check to make sure they are wearing evenly. I don't think the cracks shown in the photo are a big deal Keep an eye on the sidewalls.
 
That's called weather checking and is a result of uv exposure.

It's nothing of concern.

Thanks for the replies. I will see what kind of BS the dealer puts out there. Like I said...multiple vehicles at home and many in the work fleet and none have that sort of tread flaw. The truck was aligned to Thuren specs about 400 miles ago but even before that it seemed fine.....aside from the wheel being off from day 1. And yes, to us real world folk, they are over inflated but with spec to keep the light off.

I didn’t know there was a recall. I looked it up. Whitexc - here are the codes FYI:

Tires included in this recall are as follows:

· Firestone Transforce HT in size LT275/70R18 with DOT Tire Identification Number VN 15 TH7 1821;

· Firestone Transforce AT in size LT275/70R18 with DOT Tire Identification Number VN 15 TR9 1821.
 
The tires should fall under Firestone's warranty if they're under 4 years old (check the DOT#).

I don't know if you'll get the dealer to warranty them since it's a tire fault not a Chrysler one. If they do, you have a good dealer.

Yeah - I agree - but - I’ll let these less than stellar Firestones wear out before replacing with Michelins. Why RAM doesn’t go the extra mile and slap some decent shoes on is a mystery…

For that matter (but off topic) why the heck don’t they include the cost of a 10/100K warranty in to the product?? Shopping around for coverage is just crazy! I remember years ago a Ford dealer asking me what it would take to get me in to an extended warranty and I told him the Hyundai I just bought came with 10/100. He said - yeah, but they’ll be out of business soon and you'll be stuck. Fast forward 2 years, that dealer was out of business along with many of the big 3 retail centers while Hyundai just kept growing.

Is it really asking so much?? If you make a great product, back it from day 1….

What’s the last 4 digits of one of the DOT codes on the sidewall? First two will indicated which week of manufacture out of 52 and the last two are the year of manufacture
 
Looking at the tires it would bring up the question, do you tend to use tire shine? If so that could be the reason for the premature cracking as the tire shines usually pull the oils out of the tires and it starts to dry rot early resulting in the small cracks you have there this is more evident in the cheaper tires
 
They do see tire shine here and there. The drive through wash we use applies it automatically at the end just after the blow jo$ lol. I have other vehicles and tires that have seen a lot more tire shine that didn't show this so....not sure.

I will see what they say and go from there.

Going to pick the truck up tonight. Recall completed and both the tires and brakes are fine per the stealership. They said the tires have sun check and ArmorAll should slow that (although I was under the impression ArmorAll speed that up...). The service writer told me to drive the truck more and the only thing they could do was a caliper svc on each wheel @ $119×4 to clean up the brakes. I said thanks but no. With 8800 miles it's not like it isn't driven....and my concern was that pesky soft/spongy pedal so what would the caliper slides have to do with that? Notta.

I’m using the cracks to buy new tires.

Step 1: showed the wife the cracks today

Step 2: order 37”s soon

Wives are easy. You just gotta mention that you need something a time or two a few weeks before you buy it.

Picked the truck up. They had 71psi in the fronts and 74 in the rears. Took the rears down to 67 and the fronts down to 65. I am limited by that stupid light. I need and Alfa friend.

You can run way lower without tripping the light. The light comes on when you’re like 30% lower than the threshold or something. I was running around 50-55 and the light didn’t come on until the weather changed and the sensors read 49 psi
 
Hmm, I will have to try again. When the truck was new I played with pressures and thought the light came on below 65. It's on full time in my beater and is covered with black tape. I couldn't bring myself to go there with the new truck.
