TransferFlow Replacement Tank for Hemi

UPDATE:

The Ram tank is still moving forward. Transfer Flow recently received green light from CARB to proceed with emissions testing. They're working through a "few final details" and will begin testing shortly.

Assuming testing goes smoothly, they'll likely then need to wait a few months for the Executive Order from CARB that officially authorizes the tank for sale.

It appears that the Power Wagon may not be compatible with the TF tank, though it's possible that the engineering team will find a solution. No word on the specifics of the compatibility issue.

Regarding availability of the tank for purchase, Transfer Flow is stating that they're "hopeful for the end of summer."

If the PW is a problem it’s likely due to the skid plates and the extra crossmember to support them. That means it won’t work on Rebels either.

ANOTHER UPDATE:

The Ram replacement tank has been “slightly delayed” due to some questions raised by CARB. I am told that they are small items, but that they will still require “some time” to address.

So, overall, the project is still advancing, but at a slower pace than expected.

Teri Barry, Sales Manager at Transfer Flow reminded me that those who are interested should email her with your vehicle and contact info, so that she can add you to the wait list. Teri’s email: [email protected]

Email sent. When the tanks come out for our gassers I will buy one.

I know these tanks are pricey, but this thread gives an appreciation for how much time, money, and r&d effort goes into certifying every tank for every vehicle. Given the relatively low volume they sell they need to charge what they do to defray all the up front expense.

Thank you for sharing such an exciting update and looking ahead to have the tank fitted and used in the long drives.

I’ll email Teri to be enlisted, although I’ve done it earlier and was confirmed to be among the list of interested buyers.

@3500_Gasser, Do we know if this tank will be useable with the B&W turnover gooseneck hitch? I believe the handle to remove the gooseneck ball goes right above the gas tank now.

Teri at Transfer Flow told me that they "don't anticipate any issues with fifth-wheel or gooseneck hitch receivers based on their location." If I understood correctly, this is because the canister assembly on the Ram mounts to the frame rail in front of the fuel tank. Apparently, Transfer Flow had some issues with the canister assembly with the B&W turnover hitch on their Ford gas replacement tank, though those issues have been resolved.

BIG UPDATE !!

The RAM tank has now passed all CARB-required testing, and the first production run will begin soon! Tanks could be available by end “end of next month”!

TF is still waiting to receive the “executive order” (EO) from CARB, and then can sell into California. In the meantime, as soon as the engineering team gives the green light, TF will begin preselling into the other 49 states. I am told that they are starting with a small batch of tanks, and will be giving priority to customers on the wait list, reaching out to them individually.

Once the wait list orders are filled, and the CARB EO is in hand, the tank will be available for purchase at https://www.transferflow.com/

If you wish to get on the wait list, please email Teri Barry, Sales Manager at Transfer Flow. Please provide your vehicle and contact info. Teri’s email: [email protected]

This is great news for you short bed guys. How many gallons did the tank end holding?

I'm also impressed at the response by Transfer Flow with pursuing this from their customer base.

Great so long as you don't have a 2019/20 truck...yeah, I'm a little salty about it...

I think it’s a no go on PWs/Rebels too, unless you want to give up a skid plate and crossmember plus some ground clearance.

I get it, the range is limited. But the PW has such a low payload already and if you offroad the extra weight but hinder the capability of the truck... Just trying to soften the disappointment :p

The PW has a low payload, but a Hemi Rebel has 2900# of payload capacity.

I’m way out of my league on this topic so I have no personal opinion, but below are a couple of recent quotes from Teri @ Transfer Flow (sent to me via email this week) that might be helpful:
“Our engineers have cleared the tank for all trim packages. The tank will not be lower than the current skid plate – no loss of ground clearance.”
“Our tanks are 10-gauge aluminized steel and do not need a skid plate anyway!”

The Power Wagon and Rebel have an additional crossmember that supports the gas skid and the T-case skid. I don’t see how you’d fit a tank that’s different in shape and size without removing that.

Also, I agree with Dave, 10ga aluminized steel does not obviate the need for a skid. That’s slightly more than 1/8”, which isn’t thin, but it’s also way more expensive to replace than a skid if you dent it up. I prefer extra plates under things.
