I have a 2020 Ram 2500 Cummins with 33k miles. While towing a 10k lb 5th wheel the trans makes a chirping sound when shifting into the higher gears under somewhat of a strain.
Any ideas?
Thanks

I haven’t experienced that but others have with the aisin trans usually. Are most of your miles towing? Usually would indicate a hydraulic problem like fluid passing by where it shouldn’t. The 68s valve body’s are known for flex I wonder if yours is starting already.

I bought the truck with 22k miles on it. It had never towed anything big. So, most of the miles I have put on it about 3/4 of it is towing. I thought the Aisin was the better trans. What is flex? I purchased an extended warranty; what should i tell them other than the noise when I drop it off. And is this fixable? Is it something that the repair is better than the original? And how serious is it?
Thanks for the reply

Everything is repairable. The dealership's ability to duplicate the issue, accurately diagnosing the issue, and getting the issue covered under warranty are the real questions.

My HO will still do it occasionally under a load and I have 118K on it. I believe it is just the clutches locking up during a shift and not too concerning. Since you bought it used, I'd recommend having the tranny fluid and filter changed making sure it is the right stuff. Never hurts to have new fluids in a tranny or engine and then you have a baseline for further maintenance.
