Tranny temps

I've got 3.73's. I'm thinking 3.42 wasn't an option on the chassis cab truck. Could have got 4.10's but I'm satisfied with what I've got. Even the lower power CTD is plenty torquey for whatever gears you may have.

3.42’s we’re last offered in 2018.

Yes, it’s an impressive motor.

We have the same gears and trans, so I’m confident that if you did some back to back trials you would notice the difference.

Here is what I found back in April. Obviously throttle positions will effect this.

No-TH
1st to 2nd: 7 mph
2nd to 3rd: 16 mph
3rd TC Lock: 23 mph
3rd to 4th: 29 mph
4th to 5th: 35 mph
5th to 6th: 42 mph
TH
1st to 2nd: 7 mph
2nd TC Lock: 18 mph
2nd to 3rd: 26 mph
3rd to 4th: 37 mph
4th to 5th: 50 mph
5th to 6th: 65 mph

Yeah I've noticed the difference in shift points. One thing I have started doing occasionally is when I'm pulling out in traffic without a trailer and I need to really go, I reach down and hit the T/H mode if I think of it. It pulls plenty hard but will hardly get out of it's own way in a takeoff due to the quick shifts. Kick in the T/H mode and it will actually scat a bit.

Yes, it does move in TH empty. That’s why I like it on steep and windy roads, better throttle response thru all the corners and speed ups.

I’m also the one not “buying” anything published by the manufacturer of our engine.

Yet you spend 5 minutes writing a dissertation on a truck forum about why they're correct?

Makes sense.

What does T/H add? I used to punch the button with big loads but after I forgot it a few times, and it has to be punched after every time you start the truck, I was at a loss for what good it was doing. Just shift strategy?

It seems like when I have a trailer hooked up, it's pretty much going to do what it's going to do anyway regardless of whether or not T/H is selected.

I got in the habit of punching the T/H button with Duramax because transmission temps would spike otherwise. I don't see that with the Aisin so honestly, I've just about quit worrying about the T/H button with my Ram.

Maybe I'm missing something. If it's just shift strategy, I'm good with it. But with the exhaust brake selected, the truck utilizes the more aggressive downshift strategy when off the throttle whether or not T/H is selected or not. I never turn the EB off and it does not have be continually selected, it stays on.

Holds gears longer on accel and downshifts sooner for better exhaust brake action on decel. There is definitely a difference in how the truck drives with T/H activated.

Basically trans shift strategy like the science instructor said.
