Train Horn Installation

I use the ARB twin for on board air. I don't have a tank...just the twin compressors. When I was researching ARB twin had the highest CFM and even had higher CFM than many that have tanks. It will fill a tire very quickly. I would have to add a tank to run air horns.

Where did you mount it? Did you put it in an enclosure? Can you share Pictures? Considering doing the same thing.

I'm gonna be "that" guy. I work for one of the largest class one railroads in the United States. I work outside and I hear train whistles and crossing bells daily. Ear protection is REQUIRED by the company for safety from getting your ear drums blown the hell out. The railroad industry has paid many claims to employees and non-railroad passer byes for hear damages due to excessive and abusive use of train horns along the right of ways of the tracks. This includes employees who worked during times that ear protection was not a requirement. Engineers are taught to not blow off their horn indiscriminately but only for warning (where required by a territorial time table) and emergency situations. There are a increasing number of silent no-whistle crossings designated in urban and populated areas that go into effect during certain times of the day. Like evening hours for example.

I don't know the legality of these horns on regular vehicles, but if anyone with this installed in there truck thinks it's funny to blow it off next a vehicle or people...you better think again. As far as I can predict, at he very least you'll get sued. At the very worst, your truck will get riddled and become a giant paperweight.

The real question one should be asking here is, how effective are these at clearing a path through an angry mob of people blocking the highway?

how much air pressure is the compressor set to? The horn is fun, but I’d really like to have an on-board air quick connect in my bed.
